should dogs be allowed on yards?
Id love to take my dog to the yard.... but what does everyone else think?
i can see this being dog biast with it being a dog forum

if this has been done before i appologise

I have my own place.....and I always take my dogs with me.......cant really comment on the taking them to a yard bit.

Suppose if they are well behaved.....but if everyone started to take their dogs......I wud submise other yard users wud prob start to complain.
But like I said I have my own place and have never been on a yard

LOL.....I work night shifts 15 hour shifts

My dog spends the day at the yard while I am at work, I drop him off in the morning when I go and do Marnie, and he spends the day with the other terriers in and out of their run, and then the girls who run the yard drop him off at home for me, and pop him in his crate until I get back from work - all for the price off chocolate! I am very lucky!!

Well my dog is allowed on yard... my yard consisits of sensible people (all middle aged women but me and one other who's alot younger) have their own dogs but some of them don't bring them as bit of nutcase or have health problems like arthritsis, they sometimes leave them tied up when mucking out. mine and another dog who belongs to YM have free run of the yard.
Boris is only 8 months so haven't yet taken him on rides.

I have my own yard so, yes, my dog comes to the yard with me. I do, however, chain him up when I can't keep an eye on him, although he is very well behaved whilst loose when people are coming and going with cars/horses/trailers etc I feel he is best out of the way.

I run a small livery yard and what suprises me is that most liveries feel they do not need permission to bring their dogs with them. In 12 years I have only had one livery ask if it would be ok.

I don't have a problem with the dogs coming to the yard if they are well-behaved and can be trusted around sheep, free-range chickens, horses, kids etc. What really p*^^*$ me off is when people put their dogs straight in the car, drive to the yard, let the dogs out whilst tending to the horse so doggy runs off and C***s everywhere!!! take the dog for a walk first!!!! (sorry, makes me really cross)

Would love to take my doggy hacking with me but feel it could be a major disaster

I have my own yard at home but dogs dont go there! Partly cos I wouldnt want them kicked but also because they go straight to the manure heap and eat the poo!!!!Yuck!!!!

Also they could get onto the road and cause an accident. Definitely wouldnt take them hacking with me!

Oohhhhhhhh

I'm a grumpy yard owner then. The only thing I have a hard and fast rule about is NO DOGS on the property, It isn't fair on visiting or resident dogs imo.

It all depends on the individual dog and the set up of the yard really, what works some places won't work at others.

A Boarder came with a friend and dog a couple of days ago, blasted dog (JRT, no offence) started fights with my boys, went in the house and peed, in the feed room, chased the cats and cornered one (with intent) who promptly fought back and slashed his face and then went on to chase the foal! My poor Boarder was mortified, her friend was offended when I suggested that she was welcome again but dog was not.

Our YO has a black lab who is best friends with our dog Lucy. So we're allowed to take Lucy, but no-one else is allowed to bring their dog. Well, not on a regular basis anyway - one-offs are ok. Doesn't really bother anyone though. Lucy and Purdy sulk when they dont get to see each other!

Lucy hacks out with us, but only when there's someone walking as well. She IS really good and just follows the horses, but i dont feel i could jump off and get hold of her quick enough if there was another dog / cars, etc.

ah my dog cant go because of the YO terriers attack everyone!
but i park at the end of the road and he comes out with me sometimes.
he just totters along and i point him out to every car so they watch him most people dont mind but some people grumble that he should be on a lead....
most people really enjoy to see him, he's the one in the ridgeback or not post

I have my own yard and my dogs are there if I'm there. However, I wouldn't allow other people to bring their dogs down purely because it's my dogs home and I think it could cause problems.

yeah i think it would be a prob loads of dogs... thats why i thought id see the response

esp them pooping everwhere....

i dont mind i just park at the end of the drive

IMO it's fine having dogs on the yards aslong as they are well behaved with other horses. We have lots of dogs up at they yard and they are all fine with the horses.

The only reason why we don't bring our dog up is because she doesn't get along with other bitch dogs.

Dogs are allowed on our yard, but they're supposed to be kept on a lead (noone does). I'd rather people didn't bring dogs though, they just pee on everything and get in the way! There are 3 wild collies already at the yard, and they tend to fight with other dogs. They come on hacks, nice to have some company, but they can be a pest.
