little_flea, she's 115lbs, = 52 kgs.
i think we have a teensy winner in the eventing stakes - Bettina Hoy, 119lbs 54kg - that's 8 1/2 stone. wow. very jealous!

Yes, sorry, typo! I can't believe Lucinda Fredericks is 5'11 - that is SO tall for a woman!

I was really surprised at that- and she rides Brit!!! Makes me feel so much better

Cool site!

I wonder when the weights were taken - presumably they're "official", pre competition weights. I have to say, there is at least one person on there who is a LOT lighter than I would have thought.

William's mother was Marietta Speed and they are related to the Lane Fox family but it is a slightly unfortunate name!!

Because I'm even sadder than the rest of you, I've just done a few BMI calculations.
Bettina Hoy at 5'5" and 8st7lb has a BMI of 19.5, which is towards the lower end of the "healthy" range (18.5 to 25). William Fox-Pitt, who is a whole foot taller (6'5" and 12st) has a BMI of 19.8, which is also pretty impressive. Most of the other eventers also seem to be comfortably in the "healthy" range. Clayton Fredericks just creeps into the "overweight" category (by 0.4), but at over 6' and less than 14st he's not exactly fat!

If you ask me, the whole lot of them need to bulk up a bit!

hmm, i don't think so! i know that a lot of riders diet hard for the Olympics, because they're usually held in very hot countries.

I haven't looked at the data (sorry - lazy me, I wait for you lot to do all the hard work!) so this may not be true, but I know riders are weighed/measured really early in the Olympic year. A friend who had no realistic chance of getting on the team was involved in this for Athens - as I understand it, nations have to submit a sort of nominated longlistlist of possible riders really early, from which the eventual team will be drawn. Because friend was on the British Winter Training squad she got nominated and had to submit all sorts of personal data. If they used this kind of thing as their source data, it wouldn't take account of pre-Olympic diets

Ah, that makes sense TD, Clayton looked super-slim at Beijing. iirc the GB squad were given rowing machines and fitness routines to follow, so even WFP and Sharon Hunt lost weight (pair of ectomorphs that didn't need to!)
seems even odder that a couple of riders' weights are far lower than expected, then...!
