Love is in the air
She's beautiful, I love the names
Those are like an overdose of cute.
My hamster brothers were Sherlock, Watson and Mycroft - I'm not allowed to name pets in our house anymore...Sticking to the Greek/Norse mythology names for the hogs
Her colouring is really striking!
What are they like as pets are they quite interactive/affectionate?
She's an Algerian black, they really do stand out don't they!
Loki is honestly the sweetest ever little man, never bitten, happy to sit and watch the tv cuddled up on your lap. Very rarely balls up unless you make him jump. He likes to snuggle in too, just the cutest
Not sure how Persephone is going to be as she seems a lot more spicy is calming down as she settles in but who knows, the girls are generally a bit more bitey/stroppy than the boys. They hiss when they feel threatened and ball up which can be a bit alarming at first but it's just a defence mechanism.
Lots of handling when they are young and they become very friendly, good breeder is a must.
Care wise, making sure temps are ok (25-28c) is easily done, I have ceramic heaters on the vivs on a thermostat so they just come on if needed, fairly cheap to run.
Good quality dried cat food/hedgehog mixes can be brought online, a wheel for exercise, 4ftx2ft viv is best, fleeces for bedding just swap out and wash. They need a few bugs for the chitin for their quills (I feed wax worms/meal worms maybe 3 times a week)
They generally sleep most of the day (although Loki pops out a few times a day when I'm working from home) and like coming out in the evening so works well.
I think they're pretty easy keepers personally
Gorgeous! We love hedgehogs. We donβt have one but our dog has winter PJβs made out of that same material.View attachment 123305
Deposit put down on Loki's new girlfriend
Comes home Saturday - meet Persephone
I said no more pets

She's just sooo pretty and getting used to us now so getting braver
Very feisty though she has tested the waters by biting me and little sis, no reaction so moved onto the next one tonight by dropping a massive poop and then peeing on sister (I had to try soooo hard not to laugh, because they really do reek )
Not scared at all but makes her feelings clear
