This morning i managed a livery yard faux pas and accidentally caused all the horses (and the ones next door) to stampede :o:o

And here's how i managed to make myself public enemy number one!

We have a track that leads along side the field down to the muck heap, our horses on one side and behind some foliage next doors horses on the other side.

I normally walk my dog along there, letting him off the lead when we go through the gate to the track and have never had a problem.

Well today I took my other dog along too who is affectionately named 'special needs dog'. I did my usual letting them off the lead when through the gate but forgot that special needs dog is loopy and she went racing off down the track yipping with delight.

So what happened? The horse in the field spooked and had a short gallop, caused the other horses in the other fields to take off too AND caused all the horses from next door to stampede too.

When i got back onto the yard i had a 'lovely' comment from one of the owners and then made a hasty exit!

Guilt isnt the word, i feel terrible about it.

Having said that I like to see my horse expressing normal behaviour and can never understand these people who think horses should only stand and walk quietly in a field.

Not looking forward to going back up this afternoon :o:o

Useful bit of desensitising if you ask me ;) If their horses can't cope with a dog in the field/track next to them I don't think they are safe enough to be out hacking/going to shows either  I like my horses to be totally child, dog, cat, everything proofed at the yard :D

Honestly, don't worry about it. One of the girls at my last yard had a right go at me one day as my horse came down to the gate when I called (he always does) and the others decided to follow! :D

They're horses!! What's the harm in letting them have a bit of fun. The horses next door to us kick off at the slightest thing, it's just how they are xx

We caused next door's horses to run/leap about yesterday when we went into the field next to them, just to make sure the electric fence was working so that we could put out our horses, who had been in for 2 days.
When we actually got ours into the field, with some haylage, they completely ignored next door's and concentrated on eating.
I was a bit worried though, in case next door's did some damage to themselves.

Neighbour just laughed at them and told them not to be so daft!

What is it with dogs :D Mine found one of those sleeves that young trees grow through. She took it to show the horses with additional shaking of sleeve  and lamb jumps. Well... that warmed the horses up then :D I have to say, my mare looked fantastic

I expect your livery horses loved every minute of it :D

yes all the horses seemed to love it, and i enjoy seeing them let off some steam but there is a bit of a sense at my yard that it is dangerous for the horses to move any more than just walking.

Chico didnt help as just as the first spooked horse settled a bit he spotted me and came galloping over, cue them all going mental again!

I get funny looks when I take my camera when we introduce new horses to the herds. I know they are all going to get excited and run around so take the chance to get some really nice movement shots. Everybody thinks i'm nuts because i like to see them move :)

I love to see my boy having a gallop with his pals in the field. Those liveries at your yard sound a bit uptight! Not your fault your dog got a bit excited! Some people need to ligthen up!!

as long as your do was not chasing the horses what IS the problem

Horses will let of steam at lots of things ........ with ours the other day it was my mare starting it as she saw neighbours sexy gelding come into his field and she wanted into the big field to go chat him up  ..... cue a bout of spring fever hoolies which set everyone else off :D :D :D :D

and I did get it on vid :D :D :D ... its so rare she does such frolics, usually such a "serious" gal ;)

I suppose it cuts the grass up too.

I thought you meant 'stampede' as in them breaking out and through fences and yards etc. Glad it was just another hoon about, perfectly normal in my book. :D

It woudl be polite to apologise rather than just being embaressed and therefore calling everyone else silly over-worriers. Yes horses gallop but you admit yourself it was an unusual occurance setting them off.

Tut tut, how dare you walk your dog near horses and cause them to canter around, like wild animals !!

your liveries would hate me, every time I go up the drive in my carriage the fields lining the driveway end up having a bit of a hooley

i did apologies and also text the yard manager (who doesnt work weekends) to let her know what happened and that is was an accident, she was fine with it all .
Not unusual that they run around, anything sets them off, just happened to be me accidentally today, oops! :D
