As you know I had decided to call it a day with Owen and sell him on as a hack/light riding club allrounder for £850.
Put him up with his full story on horsequest and horsemart and have been absolutely innundated with calls and emails from people all over the country ( blimey!)

Ok so I rode him today as usual. Since Ive bought him back into work Ive been riding him in a special numah with a huge hole cut out in th middle which is supposed to take the pressure of the operation site off his back.
This I used following the advice of my physiotherapist and her saddler and they were adamant that I must not use any other kind of saddle cloth on him.
So today I thought Im just going to try and ride him in a normal polypad and just see how he is....

AND

HE WAS A COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT HORSE!!
Soft, forwards, supple just absolutely perfect. Felt a million dollars. Not the hobbling stiff donkey that Ive been riding for the last 3 weeks.
SO if today is not a fluke can safely assume that the saddle cloth was causing him much pain all along.. feel so bad that I did not think of changing that before it must have been agony for him.

So I now have to turn all these people away that were enquiring about him..

whoops! but he certainly did not feel like a £850 horse today more like the horse that he is supposed to be..
Am going to perservere with him for another month or so and see how he goes...

Good for you.I bet the cut numnah was putting pressure around the problem an even pressure is more comfortable for him.
I hope things carry on well its great when you find a solution.
Let us know your progress.
Sorry I don't know the story so far

PMSL!! I know! the bloody horse seriously rules my life, when Owens happy Im happy, when hes in a bad way am completly down in the dumps and I cannot do anything except worry about him !
Sorry guys, you must all be like ' WTF?' cos I change my mind about him every 5 mins!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing as they say!

The number of times I think" I should have listened...to what my horse was telling me..."

Hope it goes well from now on.

Thank you carthorse-

he had a kissing spine op last year hence why he was given the special saddle cloth. Which has turned out to be a complete waste of time and money it seems and crippled the poor horse in the process

Please think carefully.... can't wait for next week....

Haven't seen Owen's history either but your post was so heartfelt I really wanted to wish you good luck xx

PMSL! what are you like.
Well, I dont blame you, would have done the same in your situation.
Someone is trying to tell ya something

Hows newbee doing?

i mustve missed the post where you said you were selling him hun

I do think you should persevre with him, even if (like you said) you just keep at it for another month, and if things dont progress how you would like then look at selling him again. At least you know you wont have any problems in selling if it comes to that xx

Sounds like you have cracked it. He's your baby, so if you have changed your mind, so be it. A point I had thought of is, because he has had problems and you are currently achieving success, the longer you keep him the more value he will obtain. Also for the price advertised, you will have the phone ringing off the wall and it is very hard to weed out a good home when you have so many people wanting to bag a bargin. So for the horses sake I think it wise to keep hold of him and see how things go for a little while longer.

OOooooo that sounds wonderful!!! Fingers crossed that all goes well hun!! But seriously, if not, then I know someone (extremely competant LW male) who is harl heartedly looking for a forward going hack atm. I say half heartedly, as he's rather busy atm and would really like a horse to just chill out on - does that sound up Owen's street? This is of course if this new found awesomeness does not continue.......... I do however have everything crossed that it all works out and you can keep him!

I know, I know.. you were right all along Char...! Will listen to you next time I will

Whats all this about the Buckaroo?!! Or are you talking about BP's?X

Yes the poor soul was trying to tell me all along.. how genuine he was to put up with it

New little girl is SUPER- lunging in all tack now, been leaning over her, hope to get on board this week. She really does not bat an eyelid at anything, was sooo tempted to hop on her yesterday and tack her for a hack because am sure she would not have minded! But no, must hang on a while longer and do things properly
tongue.gif

I think she is going to be remarkably quick and easy to break and bring on she is so laid back but not boring laid back, just right

He felt so ordinary and un-athletic to ride that I just decided a that I didnt want to carry on with him a day longer. But at least now he's giving me more of a feel then I can get him properly fit and schooling/jumping etc,so therefore I can give the poor boy a proper assesment and then decide what to do with him
smile.gif

Very valid point yes- you would not believe the number of emails I've had from people who seem to be completly illiterate and not know a thing about horses
mad.gif
but is to be expected I suppose.
Even if I do change my mind in another months time, at least he will be fitter, schooling jumping etc, so will be able to ask a little more money for him... or I will decide to keep him to event
