Despite him getting sidebone I have been having a few issues with Beacon outside of the school so I casually asked Chris (who is undoubtedly the best rider on the degree course) if he fancied taking him around the XC he said yeah. His friends all said oh Chris will soon sort him out he can sort anything out. So off they set. Guess who got Beaconized  He started off even testing him in walk, poking nose out, grabbing the bit etc. The did the same when he eventually went into trot. As he came past he said BOY he tests every dam thing. I of course grinned at him
Off into canter .GONE!! then he came up and said bloody hell I can not keep up with him, one second he wont stop the next he wont go forward, which means I dont know what the hell to do from one second to the next. Then he throws something else in at the same time. I smiled and said as my friends would say you have just been Beaconized
He EVENTUALLY got him settle enough to jump him over a tiny jump and of course on landing he tanked off, There was this fit young 6ft4in lad being took off with  His friends were totally shocked!!
His next comment was little sod, really knows how to use his strength against you yes he does!
He tried and tried but could not get him to stop within 4 strides of the jump even taking it in trot. OOPS
He said he is extremely smart and he has figured out if he goes forward towards the jump he is doing right so you can do nothing, but then he has also figured just the right time to back off where you are most unable to get after him in time for the jump, therefore he only jumps it IF he wants too.
So he was halting him 3 strides away and then going, this worked well But on reflection I can see me taking him XC cantering nicely towards a jump and someone will stop DEAD 3 strides out, then GO for the jump. So that will be something to use limitedly.
They were both out of breath at the end, I will have to keep my eye on that incase his hayfever is starting up.
Chris said I am very brave when I told him I am taking him to a real XC next week
Back at the stable he was VERY hyper and spooky! So glad I picked the calmer today, keep your fingers crossed for me it works
