Oops. I'm in Hospital.

Poor you, don't they know what it is yet?
Sending gentle vibes, and be a good lassie and behave, do what Dr says!!!!!
I'm sore as hell atm from my back I was wondering if you could toss a few of those muscle relaxants this way, could do with a giggle.
Get better fast, gentle hug.

Sorry my last message took ages to get through, bad connection here, just read more, sound horrible, sending ben and jerry's, large bottle of (*whatever you want) etc. asap for you.

oh no, that's rubbish. And scary how a small fall can case such damage.

Did they not give you option 4? - lie in bed being waited on hand and foot by 4 muscular good-looking male nurses for 6 weeks. No? What's the NHS coming to these days?

Mrs M I have always followed your exploits and all the highs and lows. I am so sorry for the position you are in now. The 3 options you have been given were the ones my other half would have had if the hospital had bothered whe asked to xray his back - so hats off to your hospital, it sounds like they have been really thorough. Where is the break?
Please listen and stick to whatever you are told to do - however frustrating that would be.
After all we went through I would go for either the polyfiller or cast option. One of our friends has been rodded and struggles enormously with pain and mobility.
The one good suggestion was to go out any buy a motorcyclists back support (turtle) which in the event of an accident would prevent your spine bending the wrong way. Apparently they are much more effective in that respect than a bodyprotector, mind you I am starting to wonder if we should all club together and get you some body armour.
Take care of yourself, be a good patient and hope to hear of your exploits again soon.

sorry to hear you are in hospital, wishing you a speedy recovery,
shame about camp....your health comes first, next year they will put you on double shifts :D:D:D

Here's wishing you a speedy but careful recovery, hope we can help to make your recovery more fun - keep posting on the forum with your progress!

Oh no Im sorry to hear this, i did wonder when you said about breathing problems that you had done something more than you thought, least your in the right place to get sorted. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and get you back on board soon xx

Thank you all for your so very kind words :)

On the grounds that I only have one back, I will be behaving myself! :D

D1 is going to ride Dizz for me. She's also going to ride her at camp.

Camp this year was always meant to be fun, then serious next year. So now D1 will have fun this year, and next year.... :D :D

Thank you again all :). I getting sleepy now. Sweet dreams :)

Oh dear - you poor thing. Have a good sleep and take care. Glad you've decided to be sensible about camp. Better to be on the safe side and able to enjoy riding once you're recovered.
Lots of good wishes for a speedy recovery.

Mrs M, do you like hospital food that much? :D :D :D

Have they named a ward after you yet ;)

Seriously, hope you mend quickly and everything goes well, whichever course of treatment you opt for.

dizzy sounds in good hands and your jump photos looked great before the dismount..

Oh Mrs M!

I don't venture here very often, so it took me a while to find this thread, forgive me.

I hope you are feeling much, much better very soon - take all the drugs they offer you!

As you say, you only get the one back, so make sure you are a good girl for the doctors and take it easy.

Jxx

So sorry to hear this, I know your pain!! I made an unscheduled dismount from my mare when she spooked at some pigeons and made a leap that sent her from walk into gallop. I crashed into the rock hard paddock and landed on the upper part of my spine and then found I couldn't stand up! Ambulance men had me strapped to a board, which I thought was a bit excessive, but xrays showed my thoracic spine ( the bit the ribs join) was fine. The doctors decided I needed a CT scan to check my lungs and that showed my spine had a nasty fracture in the lumbar - lower - region. One of the vertebrae was smashed into bits, they called it a comminuted fracture. Strangely there was no pain around the actual fracture, not then anyway, all the pain was in my upper back. ANyway I spent eight days flat in my back in hospital and was then fitted with a brace and sent home. That was about eight weeks ago and I'm still in a fair amount of pain, now in the lower back. I'm making progress though, and walking a little further each day. It has been a big shock, I came so close to being paralysed and I'm still not sure if I will ride again. The consultant has warned me I must never get on another horse but all doctors seem to have a thing about horses!

Be kind to yourself Mrs M, and don't expect too much too soon or you will end up very frustrated. You will need a lot of help when you get home but after a few weeks you'll be able to do those important little things, such as taking yourself to the loo, without assistance. It will take time, more time than you think, but you'll get back to normal.

oh mrs m! I have only just caught up with this and to be honest i still cant fathom what exactly you have done or how! Sending you gentle hugs and speedy recovery vibes. Xxx

So glad you're home. Look after yourself - or make the OH and the girls look after you to be precise! Try to see it as a nice rest period after everything you've been up to recently!
