I had my first ODE on sunday.. then forgot to write about it
This is going to be brief as i am tired and you don't really want to hear all the boring stuff...
It was not only my first ODE but also my first competition on temporary pone (who i have for a bit while i'm looking for new horse). He belongs to a professional eventer (so is probably i bit confused and irritated by me riding him
) is 8 and has done a couple of intros, so 2'9= walk in the park for him
Warmed up for dressage and he was fab- working in a proper outline, not getting distracted by anyone, me generally
.
Go in, centre line a bit wobbly, then it all went wrong
he got freaked out by the car horn in the next door arena going off when we were very close to it, lost his concentration and i couldn't get him back
in fact, i was so busy trying to get his attention focused on me, stopping him running like a giraffe etc that i made not one but two errors of course
so don't want to go into that any more but needless to say there were lots of 5's and a few 4's
us being completely hollow
(but lovely forward movement according to very kind judge on my sheet..you don't say..no brakes
)
Onto SJ, and we climbed up in our class as the course seemed pretty lethal to most combinations- LOTS of eliminations and refusals, so i was happy when we only (
) got 1 run out and 1 down. And only a bit of rearing/napping when we left the warm up, yay.
XC was varied- had some pretty heinous rearing and hopping in circles when it came to a bank we had to jump (*ahem* slither) down, as from a few metres away it looked like a vertical drop, and princessy TB likes to see where his feet are going thanks very much
but opened up very well on the straights, and we got over all the straightforward obstacles with no problems...he skipped over them
Overall we somehow managed to come first as individuals in the interschools class (very small class
), and our school team came second
Even though we were absolute cr*p compared to most people on here, i don't mind because me and pone both tried very hard (well him maybe not that hard
), and we got a nice big red rosette, (don't care how
) and we have lots to work on for next time.
And will also hopefully have some photos from John Adams clinic tomoro!
Oops i said it would be brief
sorry
