oops lol! peace offering needed! bloomin horses!

So went with a friend to collect a horse this morning, said horse has not been handled well for a while as was sold to novices and to much for them.!

We arrived and owner was there, gave us the headcollar and said i quote " here you are good luck figuring out how it goes on" !!! lol!

Mare is lovely, a big black tb and previous grade 1 showjumper.

we catch her back up the trailer as apparently she loads well, to the left of us a fence, to the right a small hedge leading to a beautifully sculptured garden and lawn, i mean immaculate!!

My friend led the mare to the ramp,at first walked up fine then suddenly shot back catching my freind out and she lost hold of the lead rein! sure you can guess what happened next?? The mare took off over the hedge and onto the lovely lawn, proceded to covort about having great fun for ten mins before allowing herself to be caught and loading like a gem!;)

Said lawn did not cope well poor old guy who owns it was very good but obviously upset, we spent ten minutes stomping divots but not to much avail on a lawn that originally looked like a beautiful bowling green!

Remind me again why we have horses!!

We were very red faced and feel we need some sort of peace offering, any ideas welcome!!
 
If it's really bad then I'd probably offer to returf it, had the same happen when a neighbours horse got into a garden and went into a greenhouse and then had a good gallop around the lawn for fun. Not as bad as when a whole herd of bullocks crashed through about ten gardens when they were being moved though!

oops herd of bullocks not good! one horse was bad enough! lol;)

Dont think he would let us returf but could suggest it! we are thinking of heading to garden centre for advice and to get some replacement plants which were....erm killed!!

He is such a nice guy didnt get angry and was so good he doesnt expect us to sort it but we want to just make up for it where we can :)

I remember a friend of mine telling me about a herd of bullocks getting free and rampaging through a very posh street and causing thousands of pound with of garden damage! Hmm your not in north devon are you :D
 
I let my trusted cob in the care of a close friend while I was away for a few days. While taking him out of the field my cob saw the open gate to the property opposite and took the opportunity to escape in to said garden and canter round the house several times before being allowed to be caught.
Immaculate lawn no more immacuate and for many weeks the chief gardner had to do turf transplants to correct damage caused by equines feet to what was a previously beatifuly manacured lawn.
Friend appologised profusely to owners - who just happened to be a former chief justice!
Gate to property from then on kept securely closed!
 
Many years ago the pony I had then, spooked at a tractor on the road and bolted off, my friend on her youngster in tow. We ended up galloping down the road at full speed so I decided to turn my horse into the church wall to stop him. What seemed like a good idea at the time ended up with us both jumping it, smashing an age old dry stone wall to smithereens. Luckily the vicar was nice about it when my mum took us later on to own up to the giant hole in the wall, however we had to claim on our 3rd party bit of our insurance to pay for a dry stone wall expert to fix it. Double oooopppps. :(
 
this was Christmas eve 2010 at parent's house when *someone* had left the collecting yard gate open and 250 dairy cows arrived on my parents' lawn - it took a serious amount of grovelling and a landscaper to reseed it. If it looks anything like this good luck - it took months to look right again!

OMG!! lol thats baaddddd!!! theres no lawn left!!

fortunaltely its nowhere near as bad just has foot marks everywhere! Imagine your horse having a hooloie round a bowling green and you can imagine the damage! oops! didnt help it had rained so ground was soft :( Thank god mare didnt have shoes on or would have been worse!
 
Having had a neighbours escaped horses run around our just topsoiled and seeded garden - so incredibly soft, leaving huge holes - who promised to roll it, but never did, just make sure you do do something and don't forget!

would never just leave it! :)

having settled the mare down at friends yard we are now enroute to find a garden centre local to him to see if they do vouchers:)

Like i say he didnt ask us to do anything and will prob be surprised when we turn up but we believe in puttin things right best we can! :)

When I was about 10 four calves escaped from the farm behind my parents house so I let them onto my Dad's vegetable garden as I didn't want them getting onto the road. Needless to say my Dad wasn't that impressed but even he said he would prefer that than them being hit by a car. My Dad was and still is very understanding when it comes to animals.:smile3: Garden centre vouchers sounds like a wonderful idea for the gentleman.

Quick update. We delivered vouchers, bottle of whisky (thanks digger6) and a bunch of flowers for wife!

They were very overwhelmed and couldnt thank us enough as thought they didnt expect anything ( daft seen as we murdered thier lawn bless them)! so 2 very happy people and we feel much better about it all :)

Funny thing was he said it was good to know there is still some good kids out there ( didnt have the heart to tell him im 34 and my friend is 36 hahaha) bless ;)
 
There's a beautiful house near my meadow that still has 'haunted hoof prints' across their croquet lawn. This from when my two (those were the days) escaped and cavorted around his extensive gardens. I took my family down there (couldn't leave the kids, who were toddlers) and spent all morning putting compost in the holes and replacing the little grass 'hats'. Unfortunately the compost was richer than the soil, so dark green hoof prints grow every year...
 
PMSL to Penny Turner and :eek: to RTE!!

I remember years ago as a kid riding at an RS who were next to a golf course.... Cue mass breakout overnight and one exceedingly pissed off groundsman the next morning :o

I did worse than that lol. Was riding a friends horse who got spooked and took off across 'the green' and then got chased by irate golfers and groundsman. I did go back and apologise and offer to tread it all back in, but groundsman just shouted and ranted so I left...
 
OP I know you've been having a tough time from a previous thread and just wanted to say that this shows what a genuine person you are. I'm glad the chap was happy but, if there is any such thing as karma, I think you deserve things to improve for you too!

I only suggested garden centre vouchers...... cos I've done the same after 2 small ponies escaped from my yard up the lane & trampled the croquet lawn a number of years ago....
Several circuits later & the little stinkers were caught by the rather irate gardener with a bucket of daff bulbs (just the rattle got them up to him), tho the houseowner was was in tears of laughter!
 
This is too funny! We had a very naughty pony when we were kids who we kept at home. To get to our turnout we had to cross a quiet lane which led to the estate owners home complete with, yes - immaculate lawns and garden (you can probably see where I'm going with this) This pony was a real monkey and knew she could overpower us kids and liked to take off while we were leading her. She did it one morning in the pouring rain on the way to the turnout and had a great time cutting up a very well kept lawn and trampling all the shrubs in the flower bed in the centre. So embarrassing!
 
My OH accidently let my boy out of the yard and said pony belted round the garden, he was on box rest at the time. Cue panicing OH in hot pursuit. Pony eventually put himself back in stable where his tea was waiting. Loads of deep holes in the garden and two areas flattened and with scrapes where pony rolled.

OH told me, brilliant, holes for bulbs already dug!

Aww thanks hun. Yep things have been tough but i just keep plodding on lol :) fingers crossed things will improve soon :)

I was brought up to think of others and could never cause a person distress without doing something to try and make it better, especially for such a nice guy :)

I must admit we have had a good laugh about it now and is nothing like a good giggle with friends to cheer me up ;)
