OOPS Message to self - Don't turn a bolting horse into a tree!!!!

This method has always been effective in the past to stop my boy bolting!!!!

Anyway, not tonight. He kept going and I hit the tree ( big branch) which took me off sideways. Some damage to hat and I have a huge headache and big bump.

I really did see stars and had to sit on the floor for 5 mins to stop feeling dizzy and sick

Also, don't know if it is possible, but almost seem to have whiplash in my left side of neck. Very painful and finding it diffcult to move.

My old mare bolted with me once doing cross country training. We headed straight for a tree and bushes!! Thinking she was gonna stop I braced myself for the collision but she just kept going!!! We ended up suspended half up the tree and half in the bushes. I couldn't believe it. I had to lower myself down off the side and the only way we could get her out was to whack her on the arse and catch her the other side. She was all scratched up and bruised and sore for a couple of days but other than that we were both fine. One thing I will say is she never bolted again after that!!!

By the way forgot to say - hope you are feeling better soon!! Whiplash is horrid and if you have got it, it will go on for a while. I would get it checked if I were you. Just to be sure!!
 
Ouchies! Poor you. (((((hugs)))))

Now go and get x-rayed. It's very possible to fracture your neck and still be mobile - at least for a short time.

i am sorry to say that is the funniest title of a post i have ever seen!!!
i hope you are ok you really should go and get it checked out. you may have done some damage.

I got whiplash in my neck after falling off and it hurts like hell, you wont be able to move your neck for ages, dr gave me codine and ibrobrufen and a Tens mashine, all helped with the pain but still couldnt move much for at least a week.
Get it checked out, if you have trapped a nerve you need to get it seen to
x
 
Seriously please go and get checked out. My Mum has memory problems and it may have been caused (even though they can’t be sure for def) from a fall from a horse where she banged her head!

I hope you feel 100% very soon! And naughty horsey for bolting in the first place!
 
Oh no poor you. i also think you should get checked out - you may have damaged yourself more than you think. I know we are all tough and get back on the horse etc but neck and back injurys have to be taken seriously...
 
Am going to go to bed and try and sleep it of, i promise if i am still in so much pain tomorrow, i will get it checked out. I have a regular physio i see as i have other probs with my neck anyway.

On a posiitve note, my sister who was on her horse behind says it was 'rather sectacular' I was glad to oblige!!!!!! It did make her day, she was a bit depressed - it was 6 years today since my gran died.
 
love your post Katie - I wish my boy would learn from his mistakes, it has not been so too date!!!!!!!!!! Trees have always worked in the past. Mine you he was being a numpty this evening!!!!!!
 
Ouch. Get in checked out though. I did a similar thing a long while ago, turned the horse (not mine) towards the stable and the stupid thing kept going straight into the stable door, pitching me over her head and breaking my collarbone nicely in two. Haven't tried that method since....

When Ellie refuses to brake I usually find turning her into a corner of the field works but I have visions that one day she's gonna keep going... and going...

ooh nasty poor you

I did something my friends thought was bloody hilarious......we were trotting and I ducked for a branch and somehow got it under my tabard and pulled me off!!! rather amusing I have to admit!
 
Galloping through a wood with head on horses neck years ago - looked up to see where we were going, caught a branch right across my neck which knocked me off the horse backwards.

Ditto others - bin the hat!
 
I did that when I was on Athena! I ended up hugging the tree (don't ask me how) and ended up with a broken rib after falling off and landing on my side. I also ripped a chunk of skin off my finger from where the reins were pulled through my hands. I can laugh about it now, but boy, did it hurt!!!
