Oops, what shall I do re. sharing?

Hihi,

I have been sharing a horse for a couple of months now and am getting on ok with him although he is a bit quirky. I heard (from many reliable sources) that he was going to be sold so when someone else approached me about riding their I tried it out and provisionally said I would start riding it. Now the first horse isn't being sold so I have accidently ended up with potentially two share horses and only have time for one.

I am still riding the original one but haven't really started to ride the other one. I don't know what to do! The one I ride has a few issues sometimes and I have been too nervous to do any jumping or hacking (apparently not great hacking alone). The new potential one is obviously more unknown and it seemed like there was a lot to work on when I tried it but I have seen it jump and it is fine and apparently it is fine hacking so in the end maybe I would be able to do more with it.

Any ideas?! What would you do if you were me, or what would you think if you were one of the owners?

Be upfront with the owner of the first horse and say you have issues and think the other horse may be more suitable. You will need to offer a months notice (or the money).

I agree with Divasmum. There's no point in spending time and money if there is something more suitable available.

The owner of the first horse has got to realise that ultimately the horse is their responsibility so, as long as you give enough notice, they are the ones that need to ensure he/she is well cared for.

i would try out the second horse but then please make sure you give the owner of the first horse a month's notice...i realise the horse is their responsibility but most people have sharers for the ££s and rely upon this for necessaities. i've been screwed over a few times by sharers just stopping with no notice whatsoever and its not nice.

Yes, I would always give notice Actually the first share horse has been very good the last couple of times so I might end up sticking with him! I suppose if I am honest with myself mostly I enjoy schooling and the first horse is more established and works better than the second. I guess I can always have a few more lessons on the current one and ask to try a little jump then just to see what happens.
