Er, just a bit! Seriously, 3 dogs is just not enough

and I have been searching rescues for suitable lurchery type bitches but nothing much has come up. I wasn't really after a pup because I think they get rehomed easily enough and would prefer an older, harder to home one...but she is so cute. Where are you again?

Durham.....is calling u OOTP

Oooh, she's stunning isn't she! Def full Grey? Her colouring gives her a slight look of Saluki in the face. I think my Whippy boys would take a shine to her!
laugh.gif

OOTP, I'm always on the look out for my next Lurcher, but there do seem to be more boys than girls in rescue don't there....even so, the rescues are always full to bursting. I've got the added complication of needing cat friendly too!

Do you foster for rescues then Cala? Or do your own thing?

Its my mams rescue she does it from her home...she is not funded or registered, so recieves no donation except for the one off adoption donation....she does it all herself...I take anything I can to help out when she has alot in at once...normally the adult dogs that come in with problems....cos I have more time to spend on them before re-homing....she has re-homed dogs on deaths row for over 20 years now...she is a vet nurse..and thats where it all began through her work
crazy.gif

All of our dogs are kept in a home environment before re-homing so all cat and dog friendly.....Have u seen the crazy free play pics I ve posted of all the beasties playing together

Likewise, although my cat has given up living in the house and has is own custom built rabbit hutch in the front garden, where he can live without running the risk of lurchers trying to open him up everytime he makes for the cat flap!

I am after a specific size too which rules out the deerhound/wolfhound crosses, (the smaller they are, the more you can have!) and I don't want one so young that I can't leave her, or so old that mine will wear her out.

Thanks CALA, I thought you were somewhere stupid like Durham. I'm sure she'll find a kind home with someone who doesn't live 320 miles away...see, I did check out the distance on AA routefinder to see if it was feasible!

Wow that's a lot of work, well done you and your mum.

We've fostered the odd one (always sighthounds), and i'm always happy-but-sad when they find a home and move on. My Whippets are permanent tho, and never going anywhere

If you ever get a nice, cat friendly Deerhound / DHx in, let me know! I've been looking so long, they seem to be snapped up the minute they hit rescue.

Will look for your vids!

Hey OOTP, I love the idea of the cat having his own kitty hutch
laugh.gif
My old girl rarely goes far from the house and stands up to the dogs if they get a bit playful with her, the other one came from god knows where, adopted us and lives mostly in the haybarn, just coming in the bootroom for brekki. She's not bothered about the dogs in there but the silly girl runs away from them if she's outside and of course being Whippets they chase her

As far as my next lurcher's concerned , the bigger the better! Desperate for a lovely deerhoundy type, wanted one for years, OH caved in a moment of weakness and have been searching ever since

She is a little beauty

I can recommend NatWest bank bags on taped on the bottom of plaster casts to keep them a bit cleaner

having patched up our greyhound once or twice

OH, YOU LOVELY PERSON!
I could just hug you for caring enough to take care of this little person so well. I'm sure you are aware that greyhounds are very sensitive to anesthetic so be careful there and be sure to keep this darling warm afterwards!
See there I go, just cause I am a saluki/sighthound person and an American I have to give orders. Humph, you'd think I'd learn...
He/She is darling! Can't you just keep it (gosh I hate saying it when refering to something with a heartbeat though it is very usual over here!) cause you certainly deserve to be loved by a greyhound. It's a real treat. Even when they pee on your bed, but we won't go there....
Best of luck with the sweetie and keep us updated Please?
Love ya

Hi Rinkiydink!
Love the patch and the picture!
You definitely have to have a bitch scottish deerhound cross or would you consider a four year old half saluki/half deerhound dog that smiles and is huge????? He looks like a greyhound, but loves his food, so tends to look like he is on steroids! He's white with brindle patches, smooth coated and a stunning looking animal, he even has a crooked stripe up his nose and I call him my "house horse". He's sound as a pound and stands square on all four legs. Would show him if he were a registered something! I'm a dog show judge and I'd put him to BIS in a heartbeat lol
He is death on cats if they aren't HIS cats. I know because I've seen him chase the odd one when off lead back in the woods behind our house for a good old leg stretch,(never came close to catching one as he comes back on call...weird for a sighthound) but when he came into our house he had never been close to a cat.
We had 24 year old Smokey The Cat at the time. I guess I should explain I bred and showed salukis for 30 years before coming here, but now only have rescues and do home checks for saluki rescue. I got a call about Bently and his sister and was asked to go check them out. We can't take in dogs that do not at least LOOK to be full saluki, but here I was and the dogs owner had died and he and his sister and a small terrier were all living on one can of dog food a day. Got his sister into Celia Cross Greyhound Rescue immediately (okay, so she looked like a greyhound, I had to do SOMETHING )and she was snapped up for adoption the next day. Was left with Bently and since the owner's OH who had him was going to put him to sleep, I took him home My OH was not impressed. We thought he would eat the cat. He looked at that cat funny and we said no once and that was the end of that. Before we lost Smokey last week at 25 years of age (pretty good that for a cat huh?) they slept together and licked each other's ears and were mates for life. Poor Bently. When we finally took old Smoke in to be pts he crawled up in Bruce's lap (and he is huge) and just whimpered. I know that's being a bit dramatic, but he DID. And he was off his food for three days.
We are not going to go get him another cat though...Not because we are afraid he or the salukis would hurt one, but just because Smokey was a special boy and we don't want another one.
Anyway, we have been searching for just the perfect home for him for a year now. We have two rescue saluki bitches and Bently in a two up two down and a small garden. I recently slipped off a horse that was standing still (first backing and a long funny story) and injured my back. MRI on Sunday arghhhh. Bently is a wonderdog. Period. He does open the fridge and help himself though. He is neutered, microchiped etc.
If you'd consider a male would you let me know? He's a love, but one too many for old people like us! We would have to have a contract insuring that if you could not keep him he would be returned to us. Despite his looks I can guarantee that he is half scottish deerhound/half saluki. I know too many people who knew about this purposely planned litter.
Love ya
