open day for sale of riding school horses- would you go??

The first two ponies I bought for my daughter were from a riding school that closed down. All the good ones were snapped up within a week. I bought an older pony as a first pony and got his best friend thrown in for free as they were inseparable!

For the sake of the ponies, maybe keep back any of those that are really happy in the riding school environment. One of my pair never really coped with the change as he had been there all his working life.

We couldn't get him to hack out on his own, he would only follow in a group, and was the same in the school - happy as larry going round nose to tail but would nap back to the gate asap if asked to do something on his own. The other pony was older yet coped well, in fact I suspect he was probably delighted to leave - all that hard work wasn't for him!

I would certainly take a look. I agree with everyone else about getting the instructors to put the horse through their paces on the day, then arranging days and times for the ponies to be tried out.

Have you tried to advertise them to clients first? A riding school I worked at closed down, we told the clients about it and put up for sale ads in the office so people could see. In the end we sold all of the riding school horses to clients in a couple of weeks.

Agree with Llewelyn^^^ I may also warn people that horses out of a riding school environment may change in their behaviour! We ended up getting a few back and having to re-home them when the owners couldn't cope with ponies that are used to being ridden 2/3 times a day, used to a buzzy yard, or were not great at hacking alone etc.
