Hi folks new here , amazing forum from what we have seen so far !

We bought a R Reg 1997 leyland daf last month , brilliant wee lorry. Few spots of rust but solid hopefully and I’ll get the waxoyl out soon. Bit of a mystery question but does anyone know how to open the grill under the windscreen ? I can’t see turnbuckles or levers , I don’t want to force it and IMG_3805.jpegbreak it any help or advice greatly appreciated

Congratulations - Looks a cracker!

Probably no help whatsoever, but I have a slightly newer DAF - an LF - and opening the bonnet puzzled me for about a week. Turns out you just pull upwards from the bottom of the coloured bit, and it hinges somewhere near the top - but not visible when your're peering in. Yours might be different though!

There is a wonderful helpful group on Facebook - well 2 actually, who will tell you everything you need to know, and the DAF one has a load of files and manuals to download

So I went through a similar thing a couple of months ago with an S reg and for once Google failed me.

So there is a catch in the grill but it’s hard to find/see. Without standing in front of the lorry, I think it’s in the middle grill on the right hand section. If you wiggle your hand around in there (carefully) you might find it. If not I’ll take a photo later of it…..if I can find it again that is!

Sorry it’s taken a while and you’ve probably found it by now but in case anyone else ends up googling it.

So it’s actually in the bottom left hand grill, there is a rounded bit of metal on a rod, you slide it to the left and then it pops the upper part open.

It was hard to photo.
