Thanks, yes please do add to thread. I agree, think he is a bit over chunky but no cresty neck...I’m no expert but am interested in this as when I bring my LW cob in onto the yard everyone has an opinion on his weight/condition/loss or gains! So I think I’m gonna post a photo later today asking for opinions also! Maybe we can all add ours to this thread if you don’t mind for knowledgeable types to comment??
For what it’s worth I’d say 3-4 for your pony, as he’s well covered, peachy bum, some fat pads in places, but appreciate his type is chunky. He has no cresty neck though as one has on our yard already.
Can you feel his ribs?
Looks a bit bigger but not bad
Yes he's 13.2, thanks yes, I do feel he's a bit too tubby.Photos are very difficult to judge, and he does have a gutter in his bum suggesting he's a bit too well covered for safety going into spring grass growth. I would be easygoing like a hawk for pulses as the grass comes through.
Like JBM, I would judge by whether I can easily feel ribs without pushing into flesh in the front half of the rib cage.
I'm guessing you mean he's 13.2? He's a nice little fellow.

Yes, its really difficult! What a lovely glossy pony.
With the gutter on his bottom and what looks like fat pads behind his shoulders, personally, I think he is too well-covered and would be trying to get some off if possible because of how quickly they pile it on as soon as the grass starts coming through. Could you up the exercise a little bit? I wish I had your hills!
I have a very good doer and it is a nightmare managing him on cow grass, which is pretty much all we have round here.
Agree!Lovely pony.
A bit over weight and I’d try and get a little more off before spring grass through, but in the grand scheme of cobs and their natural lard you are doing well!
Agree with what the others have said. What a nice sort of pony and a lovely colour. He is in very similar condition to the welsh I used to have. I was lucky in that he never gained too much so never had to worry about laminitis. This pony is a Dales-Welsh cross at 13.5 hands. He is hacked-out 3-5 times a week, mostly hill work as its a mountainous area. Can do 12 mile fun ride without too much effort.
