Opinion on this mare please

I really like her, but then I'm a sucker for a chestnut mare!

Definitely worth a look and if she is as described an extremely good price.

She looks very nice. My only criticism is that she looks quite short and stiff through the neck so she may not flex or bend terribly easily. Can't tell from the pics if she is very muscled through the neck or if she is a bit cresty.

She's very pretty and I'm sure someone could have a lot of fun with her as she seems to be happy to have a go at anything she's asked. She seems worth the asking price.
She'd need re-schooling before she could 'excel at Showing and dressage' though, Her neck shape suggests that she doesn't work in a nice outline as claimed, too much muscle underneath rather than being nice and soft, of course that can be fixed but it does take time.
It would depend on what your friend plans to do with her, it may not be an issue for her or she may be happy to take on the challenge :)

thats the only thing that was worrying me too, that she looks quite tense through the neck in all the ridden photos. Other than that i really like her :)

I found it a bit odd that they had no photos or video of her side on without tack, in the shots of her being washed off they stayed at different angles possibly to avoid showing the true extent of her neck??? is she a Welsh cob or part bred there is no real clarification on that, she looks nice enough but possibly very green jumping, had a lead going into the water was that required??
As with trying at any dealers yard go in with ears and eyes open, lots of questions and do not take anything for granted.

Yeh it could just be a quirk of the photos or my terrible eye sight but her muscle tone suggests she might be quite strong and has built up a load of muscle under her neck as a result of pulling or working incorrectly. But defo worth a look.

The photos of her schooling on the flat make her look hard work, video shows a fun horse. That neck looks very well developed underneath. Worth a look, but think she might need a lot of re-schooling before her neck came good.

Oh yes flashy and honest - she looks like the image of my first pony too - he was a 14.2hh Welsh sec D. She's only young so I would say you could work on that consistent contact and head throwing. I would certainly view her. You can't beat a good welsh fo versatility.

Oh yes, definitely worth a look. Of course re some obvious "problems" (not problems as such rather minor issues) but nothing what couldn't be resolved (judged by the video). Really like her.

Well as someone who has somehow ended up with 3 welsh redheads I'd definately have a look! However, to me she does look like she may have the potential to be fairly strong at times. Will be interested to hear how the viewing goes! :)

CnG Equine......I've heard that before. Were they the ones doing the begging bowl to sell a horse to their groom?

That aside, I agree with the long back/short tense neck comments. Will need extensive reschooling to do well competing but it depends what they are going to do with her.

yes thats them. They are really well known in our area, i've heard both good and bad stories about them.

Rider is a petite nervous rider looking for an alrounder but mainly dressage i believe

With that info, I'd say my gut feeling is that this horse will not be right.
It looks v strong and won't be winning any prizes at dressage any time soon, never mind with a petite nervous rider on board.
But that's just my opinion :)

ETA I'm always a bit suspicious of adverts which describe the perfect horse in every way - it doesn't exist (especially for £2k) so they're being economical with the truth somewhere IMO.
She's only 6 and by the sounds of the ad hasn't actually done anything except be ridden around by her old owners then go to a dealer. Why would they send her to a dealer?
I'm afraid I just don't get a good feeling about this horse for a nervous rider.

I think there are a lot of horses who would be easier to school to do low level dressage with a nervous rider than this mare. The flat pictures aren't inspiring or representative of a horse correctly produced (for dressage).

I don't think a Welsh pony and a nervous rider would be a good partnership. Of course there is always the exception but looking at the video, she looks strong in the school, especially in canter and green when jumping. She did look a nice hack though.
I would advise your friend to keep looking, there are plenty more suitable horses on the market at the moment IMO

In which case no good. Welshies are rarely for nervous riders!!!!

This one looks identical to my mare. Except my mare wasn't quite so set in the neck. It's still taken me 3 months to get her to relax and stretch down in a quiet setting. As soon as she gets excited head and neck shoot up my nose and she starts bouncing like a 'ginger tigger)

Also heard very mixed things about seller and would certainly make sure a 5 stage vetting was done

I thought, yes worth a look until you said who she would be for, so def no. if she wants a fun jumping pony would be worth a look although £2000 including tack seems very cheap if she is as advertised. it will take some time to get her through and properly round for dressage as she has developed the wrong neck muscles. also looks quite lively and strong to me ..has she looked on horsequest in the dressage section? might be worth checking there rather than looking at this one..

My first instinct was £2000, from a dealer, having bought from a private home - how are they making a profit on something that sounds perfect?

The answer will always be - the horse isn't perfect.

When buying from a dealer, I always think they at least double the price they bought it for, some take them schooling to make it look like they've done something, some will sell them for double to some unsuspecting person the next day. Nice dealer or not - they're all in it for the money.

A young welshie is most likely not a good match for a nervous rider, I also agree that she does look strong and where they say "needs more education on the flat" I think they really mean "needs to be taken back to basics and start all over again"

have just looked in dressage section on horsequest and nothing suitable..... but there are a couple of nice ones in family friends and hacking horses who look like good types for someone who is nervous..
