doing a m+m class and possible hunter class next sun. his bridle will be brown and will have pelham with 2 reins. his current noseband is raised, but have found a flat just over an inch wide one which looks nice on him, problem is it will be raised browband with flat noseband-which would look better?
second opinion i want is there are two hunter classes, one novice and one normal. im doing the mm class in the morning and will then go on to do hunter-but if i enter the novice i will have to change his bit to a snaffle wont i? but if i go for the normal one , as i have not done it before will it be a silly thing to do? what do i have to do in a ridden hunter class affiliated??

If he goes well in a pelham you don't have to use a snaffle in a novice class, it's just an option for you. I think you will need to swap your raised browband for a flat one as well. Plainer the better for hunters and m and m

Who is it affiliated to? Whether you have to wear a snaffle depends on the society, if it's SH(GB) most novices will be in a double or pelham.

A flat browband is better, but if you can't get one, I'd go for the flat noseband with raised browband.

You'll be expected to walk, trot and canter on the right rein, then possibly change the rein and canter again, then show a gallop (it's very important to do a good one in a hunter class). You'll get pulled in to line, get off the horse and the judge will ride each horse. If there's just one judge, they'll ride them all, then see them all trotted out inhand (minus saddle), if there are two judges one will ride while the other does inhand (often one starts from one end of the line, and one from the other, or the conformation judge follows the ride judge down the line).

Make sure you have stirrups wide/long/short enough for the judge, and a groom to help you with stripping the horse and getting you back on.
