Ok went to try a horse last week, liked it but had a bronking incident which i posted about, due to lack of turnout, high spirits etc.
so went back today, horse went beautifully and had decided to go for it. Is being sold by girl on behalf of owner, so tried to phone owner tonight to see if she would be prepared to do a short trial, which we had sort of discussed on phone last week (paranoid about getting it wrong again!!) She text me back stating, not prepared to do a trial, been messed about in past and wasted a lot of money. Got othe rpeople going to see horse, so if i want to buy him, discuss with seller, thankyou.
Now i was a little upset by this, she could have phoned me and explained this. Feel crap now, and don't know whether to say sod her and go ahead and buy it or sod off!!
Got to make up my mind very soon, people going to see him tomorrow

if yoor unsure in any way at all, then don't. another horse will come around again soon

When you say she texted you back - did you text her first? Or did you speak to her on the phone tonight?

I have to say though, I do know how she feels. I've always given trials in the past but nowadays no I wouldn't offer it.
 
Hmmm, so you spoke to the actual owners regarding trial but the girl tected you back?

Could be she was just trying to let you know in a quick way but sounded bad in a text, but then she could have rung, not alot of effort is it.

It depends, if you like the horse alot and you say you WERE going for him then sod the girl and get him!
 
the girl selling him seems sound, and a bit peeved that owner texted and said that.
I had tried to phone owner, husband took message and then rather than ringing me owner texted back with that. I am not bothered that she said no to trial, just the way she went about saying no!!
I do like the horse, but wanted to get it right. I know buying any horse is a risk, but i seem very good at getting it wrong.
There are 2 people going to see him tomorrow so need to decide now
 
Think hard about this one and please don't rush to make a decision by tomorrow just because they say other people are coming. I had this happen years ago with a horse I wasn't quite sure on and felt pushed to make my mind up before other people were supposedly going to view it the next day. I decided to go for it but made a huge mistake and had to sell him on a few months later. These other people may not want him anyway.
 
I'd let it go to be honest.

That was why I asked if she was merely responding to your text. I actually think that is darned rude! I would let her have her viewers tomorrow and if they don't buy the horse then you will have a bit more of a bargaining tool......even if you don't get your trial, you could still go and ride the horse a bit more before you make a decision, hopefully.
 
just throwing another spanner in the works .. I like you deeble had the same thing happen to me, had to make that spilt decision one a particular horse ... but Unlike you lol it was the best decision I made cause we had several years of fun and he turned out to be one of the best horses il ever have the pleasure of knowing
 
I know it is stupid, but i do like him and am having so much difficulty finding one.
Girl selling him has been great, sent photos of him show jumping, hired indoor today so we could try him properly, etc.
Like she said, i would be buying him, not his owner!! But just don't know what to do, like horse, but don't want to get it wrong
Horse is a long way away, so going to see him is four and a half hours driving there and back.
 
I would be inclined to wait. tell them to phone you if they havent sold him to the other viewers. This one is probably not meant to be.....
 
When i went to view my mare last year i rode her in the school and hacked her out, and because we had been cheeky and asked if we could go and see her before these other people went to see her on the same day. while i was riding her they phoned to say they were on their way, so after i had ridden i had about half and hour to make up my mind or loose out. so glad i got her as i love her to bits and couldnt have chosen any better IMO.
You know i like him fran but it is your decision to make your the one that has ridden him and know what you want, dont let what the owner has said put you off!
 
I did like the horse, and had agreed a price, and said i would let seller know tonight.
I was very unsure when i bought my big lad, and he turned out to be the best thing i ever did. A loon on the ground but a sweatheart to ride. So my gut instinct isn't the best thing to go on.
I am P*ssed off with owner not the horse, just start to doubt people when they p*ss you off
 
Aw, gosh that is a fair way away.

It is a real dilemma for you and I can only say what I would do if I was in your situation - I would wait it out to be honest......I always like to sleep on these things and see how I feel in the morning.....although I have to say, usually if there is ANYTHING which makes me wary of buying a horse then I generally don't! I will just walk away.

Do you believe in fate? I am a strong believer in fate and if it is mean't to happen then it will - if not, then it didn't for a reason.

I wish you the best of luck with whichever decision you make in the end.

i also agree with Tia, BUT, fate usually reaks havoc in my life so i tend to ignore it, lol
My daughter really lost confidence on last horse we bought, and last one we went to see, she refused to get on. She was bronked with with this one, and still wants him, so that is something.
if i was looking for a 16.2 it would be different as there are thousands to choose from, but we are looking at 17.2 which are few and far between.
arrghhhhhhhhhhhhh, i am so indeciscive(sp)
 
but i do like him and am having so much difficulty finding one.

This is just how I felt but I only really bought him because I was getting desparate to buy one - big mistake.
However, this is only my experience, and only you know how you feel about him so good luck with whatever you decide, it's a tough one!
 
i am desperate, but not that much
bought 2 in a row that weren't suitable, lost a lot of money so am now wary, maybe overly so. I am in no hurry really to find one, but don't want to miss a good one, cos i'm a stubborn cow, and the owner has annoyed me. On the other hand i don't want to make another mistake.
If i didn't like the horse it would be easy i would just walk away
 
If you like the horse, and you are confident it will do the job you want it to, then buy it

If you have any doubts and are feeling pressurised into a decision, then sleep on it

You will be VERY hard pushed to find anyone willing to let their horses go out on trial in this litigation crazy Britain!

Is he what you wanted? Only you can make the decision, you know what you want and did he match up to that, I sort of agree with fate, but some horses like that are hard to find, i know it took me ages to find mine, And i made the decision on the day as i didnt want to loose out as i knew he would be snapped up straight away. Its your call though but dont feel rushed into it.
 
Gut feeling, a 17.2 hh horse that bronks for whatever reason isn't going to help your daughter's confidence.

Horses are an expensive heartwrenching liability when you end up with the wrong one

Any horse, no matter how big that broncs, does not instill confidence
however we need to look at biggies as i am 5, 11 and daughter is approx 5,9 and still growing
My non confident daughter is desperate to get him, which is amazing as if he was a wrong un, she would not even get on him. She would only be riding him in the school and having lessons on him, untill she was confident enough to take him out.
He bronked, because he had had 30 mins turnout 3 days before we tried him, so who wouldn't kick up thier heels!!
today in a full size school he was a star. With al day turnout, and regular exercise i'm sure he would be fine,,,,,,,,

Oh i don't know, i'm confused, which is why i posted this in the first place
 
If the seller knew you were coming then why has the horse not be made ready for purchasers?

Sorry but I've heard that old chestnut a million times - ooh the horse hasn't been able to get out......bollox and fibbing folk.

The horse went up for sale on the friday night, i rang on the saturday afternoon, and went to see it on the sunday mid morning

They have very limited turnout, he had not been out for a couple of days, had been lightly ridden the day before we went. Went nicely, til asked for canter, then said "whoo hoo" and had a bit of a buck, nothing nasty, just a play

Anyway that is not really the issue.
He has been ridden a little more this week, and when we tried him 2day, we took him to a big indoor, lunged him briefly on my request in case he wanted a play. He was a star, schooled nicely, jumped nicely and boxed ok ish.
The horse seems cool, just fed up with owner, as OP, so still dont know what to do. Phoned girl selling him, a while ago and she is fine.
I know people tell lies, but how long till you have to say, "sod it" and trust someone a little?????????
 
Normally never for me I'm afraid. I buy a fair amount of horses and if they do not live up to exactly what the seller says then I'm afraid I walk away. When I advertise my selling horses, I make sure I have them prepared for sale and my advert always describes them perfectly and they all perform correctly and true to form when the purchasers turn up.

The only time I have made a mistake was when I bought a horse blind - the minute it got off the trailer I knew it was not staying, so I got it up to speed and then sold it.

Everyone is different though.
 
I would let the others view TBH. I would really want a horse on trial which had bucked, or at least to go see it once more.
 
This rings alarm bells with me, not so much the fact they won't allow a trial but the fact they are trying to hurry you into a decision. Hard as it is I would wait (there may not be people coming today that could be a red herring to get you to decide straight away) and make a rational decision afterwards.
