although I have always raved on about how nice my farrier is, and how he always rings..... he has, I feel, really let me down today.
Apart from being 3 hours late, he seems to have made a bit of a mess of Sol's feet-

^in this one, it's the gap inbetween his foot and his shoe (i have rotated the pic)

look how high the frigging clenches are.

and then the huge gap near the clip.

He isn't lame, yet.
Sol's got typical TB feet- flat and shallow, but I think he's just gone a f****d this one (it's his near fore) up big time.
I feel so guilty for not saying anything.
I'm going to ring Red's farrier tomorrow and ask if he'll take him on- I'm fed up of waiting for half the morning for him, and this really has just disgusted me tbh.

It might just be the pictures, but they don't look too bad to me. I've seen plenty worse, anyway. Probably could do with some more heel support but if the horse is sound I'd be happy with that.

eeeeek i think id call him back, or better still get yourself a new farrier. My tb didnt have the best feet, but my farrier really helped getting his flat crappy feet looking quite dainty lol.

Is that cold shoeing? -because you sometimes get a gap like this. Hot shoeing seems to make a better fit. I would agree the gap is large and the whole thing looks rather crudely done.
What was the last set like?
Sounds like he may have been in a hurry.
With the prices we have to pay for a set of shoes I think you have a valid complaint even if the horse is sound.

looks like hes banged on the only size shoe he had on the van, with firing up!!! looks short too!! id see if they stay on and then have hm back as they fall off (or horsey stands on em and rips them off)

well, he has been shoeing sol for about 2 years now, and i have always been really pleased, until today.

it was hot shoeing, he doesn't 'do' cold shoeing.
he wasn't in a hurry- well, managed to talk to the YM after he'd done them for half an hour.

Im not going to call him back to do anything- he has spent all this time making his feet better, and more 'normal'- and then goes and does this.

they'd gone upto £60 aswell today.
thankyou peeps.

I dont think they look good by any means.... gappy and tatty really, but the clenches are ok.... at least they are into strong horn.

My farrier had to do this when he first took merlin on as his foot was very weak at the bottom..... he called them competition height..... i assume that they do them high when doing the farrier comps????? Not sure really, but as long as horsey is sound dont worry on that count.

The rest though looks a bit pants really!!
