What’s everyone’s opinions on calmers?

There’s always opinions that some horses haven’t needed them and they are a waste of time. I’ve been told my new horse arriving soon was a monkey on the ground when arrived at the last yard although all good now. Of course it’s a big change too and I don’t want any more stress than needed.

Along with my own anxiety I thought it might be useful to put her on a low dose when they arrive to make the first week or so easier.

Is this silly to put a horse on something that they may not need or a good idea to ensure everything goes as well as possible?
Any recommendations for the calmers?

TIA

I have never used any so I don't have personal experience but I'm pretty sure that the ones that work are the sort that are banned in competition. That doesn't matter if you aren't going to a competition but I'm not sure if you can buy those type of calmers in the average horse supply shop. I would ask a vet tbh, because they would know of a product that works and the correct dosage to give.

If you are feeling anxious about how your horse will be on the ground, I don't think there's any problem with taking action to reassure yourself. If a calmer will do that, then why not.

Thanks, there’s a few I can get in my local tack shop or online. They are super strong they just take the edge off.

Was feeling a bit silly thinking about a calmer almost, more from what I’ve heard other people say. I guess it doesn’t hurt anyone and only benefits so might go for it!
