Opinions on cobs/maxi cobs

Absolutely 100% more then that!

All three of mine are cobs/have cob in them, and all 3 are amazing.

My first in particular, Rocket, has taken me on all sorts of adventures. Hunting, plod hacks,showing, teaching my kids to ride, jumping- used to do the bigger classes with ease, despite being 2 or 3 hands smaller then everyone else. We even won the puissance at a local show one time!

Ive got nothing but love for my boys and girl, and theyve all been brilliant. I think all breeds have their plus points, but im naturally levitated towards a cob. Yours is lovely!
 
I'm assuming you are asking this with your tongue firmly in your cheek OP? They are so much more than that. What a shame if that is what people only ever believe them to be.

Unfortunately I used to think that. Im a 3/4 arab owner. Sorry! Although over the past few years I've met some amazing ones. One that actually beat my pony in a fun race on our farm ride. They aren't for me though but my opinion is definatly different of them since I've met a few more over the years!
 
This has been done to death by Shils but with humour. I'd love you to jump on my cob and tell me he's lazy, fat, whatever the boring stereotypes are. Snore.
 
They can be perceived as being fat and/or lazy but boy can they move when they want to!

When we are having a lazy day he'll just plod along and anyone looking at him in this mode will think typical cob however, when its work time in the school he can move nicely in all gaits. He loves to jump, although we haven't done much of this lately :(

They can be very stubborn so you have to be assertive with them otherwise they'll take advantage :)

Sounds a lot like my old boy! Obviously i cant make a sweeping statement for all cobs, but with mine definitely, i think they just 'know' when to turn it up. At the yard, they can be dead as dodos, but when its time to liven up, they definitely do!
 
I love a good quality, well schooled, hogged and trimmed show standard cob.

I am not so keen on poor quality animals with limited ability and too much hair, but I am sure that there are many folks who are :)

I love a maxi cob AND I love TBs...which one is best? - there's only one way to find out.......

we haveno maxi cob classes at the shows ive been to :( the class i took mine into was a cob/maxi cob class it would b brill if they had percific classes!
 
I like fit, well schooled, forward-thinking, well put together cobs. I don't like maxi cobs much - purely because in my experience they look out of proportion and overly heavy (the maxis I have known have just been obese, so not a fair representation). Those that I've had the "pleasure" of riding have been ill-mannered, stubborn, lazy and just not fun. But since they were owned by the same person, it's probably not their fault - I somehow suspect the fit maxis which hunt and are in true show condition are a whole different kettle of fish...
 
i like cobs there cute but honestly i wouldnt buy one for my self....you dont really see any international showjumper/eventer/dressage cobs.....soz cob lovers but its the truth :)
 
As for the international comp horse point well... There are very few riders at that level so it's a daft argument... And I'd rather not have a bored horse!!

But at least 99.99% of the forum users will not ever compete at international level! Having a wb or tb doesn't actually make you ride better ;)

I really like maxi cobs, lovely horses, will give you fantastic day's comfortable hunting (providing you have some breakes ;)) and seem to be a favorite at the 'local' shows if you spot a really nice one, they stick out like a sore thumb and for good reasons, what isn't there not to like?

Very smart looking animals yet complete work horses, they get on with what ever you ask and don't mince about doing it, easy to keep (condition wise and how they look) just clip em out and rug em up.

Head like dutchess, ar*e like a cook ;)
 
They can be pocket rockets, as long as they're fit and not blubbersome.

No, you don't see them at international competitions, which is one of their better points IMO:p

I've seen hairies at international competitions. And a chap I know used to take his Welsh cob too... The difference being that I'm thinking of the most sensible equine sport around - TREC! ;)
