what are you looking for?
not the best photo, looks a bit fat- but you can sort that out!
sounds nice, but sounds as though hes quite spooky as she says she needs to sell because of back problems but then would conisder an older horse? but think he sounds a sweet chap

Call me cynical (again!).....

Looks like there may be problems hacking and quite possibly with other rides. The seller is considering swapping for an older "school master" horse because she can't cope with bringing him on. He's 9 so he's quite old enough to not need bringing on which makes me think there's an issue there. Seller says he needs someone with experience. Plus the photo is in hand not ridden.

Looking again at the photo the hoof / pastern angle also looks a bit odd - like he stands rocked back on his heels a bit. That could be the lack of shoes, but combined with his weight I would wonder about Lami?

Go see him. If you're a reasonably experienced rider you might get an absolute honey of a bargain. If you're a novice do beware of over horsing yourself. There is nothing more confidence busting and heart breaking!

Exciting news everyone! Just spoke to owner - she is selling him as she had back operation hence looking for a plod now. He has really nice personality - no barging and lowest in pecking order whilst in field. His previous 2 owners left him in field (few years and 3 months) so did not ride him much. His last home had fields of hacking available and no main roads - current home has loads of roads hence why he needs confident rider. Not afraid of motorcycles or cars - just big lorries - wont be a problem with me as I am looking at stables miles from main road.

He has never been shoed as his feet are strong and not worked much from previous 2 owners. Current owner knows that in picture he is fat but has worked to resolve this.

Arranged viewing for weekend!

He does look chunky

but maybe the photo was taken in the spring/summer - the grass looks rather green and long.

Good luck with the viewing - hope he is what you are looking for.

Looks OK and if he's a straightforward horse in all respects, then yes but dear Lord he needs to be about half that size. Priority would be exercise and diet. He's dangerously overweight in that picture! Bonny lad, hope the viewing goes well.

I think he looks nice - obviously over weight though! I'd be worried about why he wasn't ridden in previous homes and if the owner details are on the passport I'd ask to have their details and contact them prior to committing. I'd also have his feet checked out by a decent farrier in case he has lami issues either coming on or has had in the past. Def a full vetting. One thing about having a horse that has issues hacking out alone etc is that if you should not get on with him and have to sell him then for another buyer that may be a real issue - just a thought! I wonder if she would consider a loan before you buy - as he may be a different horse when the weight comes off / fitness increases.

Good luck, look forward to an update!

He is being ridden by a friend of owner at the minute and think picture was taken in summer. Current owner has had him since April and sounds genuine.

Current owner has said that i can hire school, ride on roads and in fields when I go up so that way i'll get to see if he's right. Will obviously check on weight when there and how she controls weight over winter and summer incase he is prone to lami but doubtful as current owner has said i can see previous vet records. Current owner also has details for last owners (2 girls).

By the way she described him before she got him to how he is now it sounds like she has brought him on alot. Apparantly she could never get him out of field and now he'll come to call etc - not sure if this is due to food though!

you can see the picture is taken in the summer, look at the hedge behind.

he looks really lovely; hack him on his own when you try him so you know what you're dealing with
