Ditto I'm not sure anything could be done about that...even f there was it wouldn't be short term either or a huge amount of difference would be made I'd guess? I know leg deformaties should be tried to be corrected from birth pretty much before everything fuses. Plus all the untold strain on the tendons and everything else. :s

Maybe ring your farrier and vet for advice?

If you're looking for a project pony to bring on to resell [I think that was your last post about an irish x?? Sorry if I'm wrong!] I'd steer clear. Unless you're just looking for a cheap companion.

Nope don't think that is correctable. They are very long aren't they (aswell as kind of sloping if thats the right word)

You can't stop them being long which I think is the real issue.

Sadly you cant do anything about that conformational fault, he has long pastern bones which cant be altered. It isnt really related to his hoof length/structure, which may can be altered very slightly later in life.. They are also sloping, which will increase the strain being placed on the tendons/ligaments, so injury is much more likely. Sorry!

I'd say the same as everyone else. Unforunately the chances of improving such a defect is very minimal at 3 years of age. Something should have been done within the first few months after birth, but even then the improvement may not have been drastic. Doesn't mean to say the pony can't go on to be a happy hacker though..... Was he trotted out? Is he sound?

I don't think i would even sit on a horse with pasterns so bad! Even as a happy hacker, they look terrible and i wouldn't want to put more strain on them. I've never seen such sloping pasterns before :/ eep.

i didn't bother to have it troted up because i took one look at the pasterns and made my mind up. just wanted to check i wasn't jumping to conclusions and i obviously wasn't

thanks for the advice
