Opinions on Neue schule?

The other day, i heard someone go off on one about neue schule and 'newfangled bitting'. I was thinking of trying a neue schule bit, but it got me thinking about whether i should. What are your opinions on neue schule? Had any good or bad experiences or sucess stories?

Newfangled bitting? Hmm, whatever. I have used NS bits in the past and had good results. My horse prefers a KK so that's what I use instead now. I think any innovation in bit design is a positive thing if it helps to improve the comfort of the horse. That's not to say that every horse will prefer NS/KK/Myler etc over a traditional bit, but it is good to have the choice available IMO

Wouldn't touch NS but that is only because I've heard/seen problems with the quality of the bits (often breaking/snapping etc). I have a KK Ultra and I love it.

As for 'new fangled bitting' - well wy shouldn't we improve comfort/understanding for the sake of our horses? 100 years ago, one saddle would fit all the horses in the stable, and they'd never dream of fitting it properly to an individual horse. Does that mean all modern saddles are 'new fangled'?
 
I love NS bits had them on quite a few horses and they seem to really like them and go well in them.

I can recommed! Haven't heard about any breaking?
I would phone the helpline and see what they say about them breaking?

But I can say the starter bit has really helped my horse to accept and be more comfortable in the mouth and in turn lightening her forehand.
Must say not tried KK so cant comment on them.
 
My very sensitive TB loves his NS bit. He was broken in a KK which he also liked but was a little 'fussy' with, we changed to a NS and have never looked back, but as with all bits I think its down to the individual horse!

As fir 'new fangled' bitting - why shouldn't we develop things for increased comfort of our horses - not everything new is bad!

I completely agree with you about the 'new fangled' bitting, I did think it was odd when i heard her little rant...
 
When I first started riding, almost every horse was ridden in a single jointed snaffle, the only choice was between eggbut and loose ring. A few horses were ridden in a double bridle and kimblewicks were available for 'strong' horses. The wide choice of 'new-fangled' bits available now means that riders/owners think about what they are puttting in their horses mouths, which can only be a good thing.Sorry I have never tried a Neue Schule bit so can't comment on them, although I have read Heather Hyde's bitting advice, which seems good to me.
 
my 6 year old was very very fussy in the mouth when i first got her. she had been backed in a single joint snaffle.
i swapped her to a mullen happy mouth, which she settled into nicely but after a short while she was tending to lean on it and get heavy in front.
so i swapped to a KK ultra which she was ok in, but started tio get a little fussy.
so tried a NS join up bit and she is very settled in it.
 
i must have tried every bit under the sun !!!! well thats what it feels like - my horse goes fantastic in either a dr cooks bitless (not dr legal) or a hartwell pelham (not dr legal) - see the pattern!!! - so i had to get a snaffle she would accept - i have tried verbindend, sprenger kk ultra, myler, jp, random non brands, all with lozenge or double jointed as hates single jointed. I evenutally got a tranz angled lozenge and although not perfect in it - she is better than anything else i have tried - so am sticking with it for now - i have spent a fortune on bits over the last 18 months and my ns bit is not going anywhere.
The only bit i am yet to try is a sprenger duo as i have been told fantstic for horses who dont like tongue pressure - but at mo whilst she going reasonably well i am a bit loathed to change plus dont want to spend £40 on something that might not work and then cant sell for much as plastic. So to answer original question - i really like NS !
 
LOVE them. Have got four horses in them and they all accept them very well. One is in a happy mouth as he doesn't seem to get on with any metal bit.

Never had a problem with them breaking.
 
Agree, I love them!! Best bits ever - I've used NS in a few horses and always had fantastic results.

i have heard of there being issues sometimes with some newer designs, in terms of symmetry or quality, however never experienced these myself and in the instances (I heard 3rd hand so not sure how many, could have only been one case!!) I did hear of, the NS team were more than happy to send replacements immediately and the customer service was fab.

I've always had brilliant service and wouldn't hesitate to call the team if I needed advice or had concerns. My current horse is in the NS tranz angled lozenge and loves it - he came to me 2 years ago with a split mouth and had sores all up the inside of his mouth. 6 months in a hackamore and lots of camrosa healed it, but he was understandably not a fan of bits, yet in the NS I can take a contact and he accepts it brilliantly. I love my NS and can't see me ever changing it!!
 
I really like them. The quality of the new ones is far superior to the old ones, they did have problems originally (several years ago) but have change their manufacterer now and the quality is excellent as a result. I used NS on my old boy and he loved the shaped mouthpiece of the verbidend. the only reason why dont use one for my mare now is they didnt do a shaped mouthpiece fixed cheek
