I've been lucky enough to consider buying an albion double bridle. has anyone had an experience of what the nubuck/ 1/2 nubuck reins are like?? The shop said that everyone that tries them loves them and wouldn't use anything else (funny that!). to me they look like they would get really slippery when wet. They would be to use on a double bridle for dressage.

also looking at the ablion super weymouth- as it's a smart "delicate" bridle with comfort poll. I need something fine as my mare has a fine head and needs narrow leather. any other bridles worth looking at?

also, i'm looking for a new pair of reins for my snaffle bridle- i've been recommended the rubber reins that are rubber all the way through- eg eventa, jeffries, JW- any good? or continental web rein- although i always think they don't look that smart in brown.

Thank you for your comments!

My trainer recently recommended me the 1/2 nubuck reins as I was struggling with my snaffle rein slipping. She said these were the best ever snaffle reins for grip.

I think for what you want re. bridles the Albion is probably the best. For other options have a look at the Otto Schumacher on the Classic Dressage website, or the Passier Huburtus, but I think the Albion is very nice.

I have the Albion 1/2 Nubuck reins on my KB snaffle bridle. They are gorgeous reins- they are super grippy even when wet, look smart and are not at all bulky. Everyone who has ridden with them adores them!

Dont have the Albion double but do have the snaffle. It is a lovely bridle, the quality of the leather is second to none and I love the comfort headpiece. Will definately be buying the Albion when we need a double.

On my jumping bridle I use the Jeffries Bio Grip reins which I also really rate, wouldnt use them on a brown bridle for dressage though as they arnt particularly smart.

Oooh, lucky you. The albion super weymouth looks like a lovely bridle

Never used the nubuck reins myself, but I have used smooth rubber reins (with webbing core) for several years and really liked them... until using them in pouring rain, at which point they became completely useless. I think they would be nice in your hands, and wouldn't wear gloves out like normal rubber reins, but personally I like laced reins on a double bridle.

I recently got some of the biogrip reins (like Jeffries, but copies

) which have smooth rubber bobbles and a webbing core. I got them as I don't like bulky reins, and I love them.

Re bridle options - I would also suggest you have a look at the Sabre cordoba double (been raving about Sabre since I got a new bridle from them last week) Unlike the Albion, all of the straps at the top are sewn into one piece of leather, so it is really neat over the poll (padded too). I think they only come in 5/8" but because of the design it looks much finer than most doubles. I will be saving up for one eventually!

HS & MBGG - thanks sound like 1/2 nubuck would be worth getting then. yes- i agree they do look very smart and if you say they work in the wet, that's even better!

The otto schamcher is very nice as well- and so many options!

Milliepops- thanks for the smooth rubber warning. they may have been an option a smarter than pimpled rubber, but no good if too slippy as would use them for jumping/hacking as well.
The sabre does look a very nice bridle and doesn;t look that wide, but i've got a snaffle 5/8" and it just looks like so much leather on her head- particularly the cheeks, which i think would be much worse with a double.

Thank you for your comments- i will print them off and take them with me when i go shopping!
