I am currently saving for one of these jackets, I think they look brill and I am only £100 off atm :D

I want one as I plan to event a highly sturng youngster and he can put in sharp stops so if I hit a fence I want to be very protected, my mum also wants me to have one to protect my neck and lower back which a BP doesn't cover.

Has anybody got one or ridden in one? Are they as restricting as a BP? I just think they look so safe like the video on the website with the horse doing the slow motion rotational fall, its amazing the man got up and walked away!

I don't want to spend all my money on one and find out there not as good as I first thought?

Is it true you can do BE in them without a BP?

Shameless bump.

I am interested in investing in one of these. Not because I plan to go eventing, but I am getting older, my arthritis worse and I don't "bounce" like I used to do. I find my BP too restrictive and too hot in the summer. So was thinking of getting this jacket for my own peace of mind.

So I too would like peoples opinions on these too please :D

No they are fine to ride in, not restrictive, and they have started to target the 'happy hacker' market as they have real pluses over a back protector (ie give protection to collar bones, etc as well).

The fact that you tend not to notice they are there means that you will probably have at least one incident where you dismount without unhooking and the thing goes off (but you only do it once!)

When it does go off it is quite restrictive on your breathing - but it quickly goes down.

The only downside if that if you want to have a 'quick dismount' (say because you horse is going crazy with a wasp around it) then you have the hassle of having to undo the lanyard before you get off.

Theres a 10% off at the moment aswell which ends on the 4th :)

catdragon- I have seen many people bounce in them so I don't think you'd worry about not bouncing :p

canteron- Does the noise frighten your horse when it goes off?

I think you will find that to get full benefit from the air jacket that you actually wear it over your body protector.

So if you are only investing to avoid wearing a "normal" body protector then check out all the literature because it may not be giving you much more protection.

Yep, the Point Two is designed to be worn with a body protector as an extra safety device so i'm not sure how effective it would be on it's own, so you still wont escape the restricted feeling some BP's give. I can't see BE allowing you to go XC with just a Point Two, their info says for eventing in Europe it must be worn alongside a European Standard BP. I'd like more research to be done on them first too, i think they're good as long as you're thrown clear and the lanyard can detatch but if you stay close to the horse (some kinds of rotational fall for example) and the lanyard can't break away then they won't work. I've never worn one so cant speak from experience but from what i've seen and heard of them i won't be buying one just yet. When my youngster is out eventing properly, they drop in price and there's more evidence to support them i might think about it :D

Yes I have.
Excellent for hacking out in, its just like wearing a waistcoat and certainly not restricting. Eventing you wear it over a BP. I have a Rodney Powell and dont notice the addition of an airjacket.
Just develop a mantra of "unclip, unclip" before you dismount.
Wouldnt be without mine now and my daughter has one too and she just hacks out and has lessons in it and much prefers it to a BP

Re Blaise's worry that a rotational fall might not unclip you trust me they do and, if you have one, you thank your lucky stars for your airjacket
