Anyone have this bridle, or a sabre bridle?
- What cleans sabre bridles well?
- What makes the leather soften?
And any other information you can tell me about them, thanks! :)

I have this bridle although the version from around 15 years ago. It's still going strong and I clean it - not frequently tho - with whatever saddle soap is about lol. They are great x

I love Sabre stuff. I just clean it with glycerin saddle soap and it's lovely and soft (but then I have a bit of a leather/tack cleaning fetish!).

The best saddle I ever sat in was a Sabre, wish they still made them!

im not too sure, could you find a bigger picture please? :D

thats a raised and stitched leather flash bridle anyway. Sabre is a good quality make. Always go for the best quality leather you can afford, look after it well, and it will last a lifetime.

I know it isn't a hunter design bridle, it is just called a hunter bridle, like the sabre eton is called eton.. i'm not saying it is a hunter design bridle, that's just its name, i just want opinions on it and sabre in general

thats not a hunter bridle???

Traditionally when you think of a hunter bridle they do have the flat nosebands, but this is a Hunter Snaffle, they come with either a flash or cavesson noseband.

han4 - I work in a saddlery and Sabre bridles are easily our best sellers! They recommend, as with any new leather, that you give your bridle a generous coating of Neatsfoot oil, then clean using glycerine soap or spray.

I use a Sabre bridle on my horse. I've had it for about 3 years. It was bought from a friend who'd been using it for at least 10 years!! Sabre is English leather and when looked after well, will last you for years!!!

This is the info I've just got off the Sabre website for you.

Initial Oiling: ALL items MUST be treated before use to condition the leather & protect the water based dyes used in the tanning process. Apply 2 - 3 light coats of blended neatsfoot oil sparingly with a brush on a ratio of 2 coats to the flesh (underside) of the leather to 1 coat on the topside of the leather.

Maintenance Care: You should treat your leather products as you do your own skin, keeping them clean, supple & moisturised. After each use, wipe off with a damp cloth to remove sweat and dirt build up. Depending upon the frequency of use, you should regularly clean & condition your leather; clean items with glycerine saddle soap & using a clean, damp sponge, wipe the dirt and soap off. Allow to air dru and then apply a light coat of blended neatsfoot oil to all surfaces. We only recommend using the above cleaning products on our goods.

General Advice: Do not use excessive amounts of oil as this can be as damaging as using none at all! Wet leather must always be allowed to dry naturally at room temperature. Check leather & stitching regularly for signs of stress and replace if necessary - always consider that for safety reasons, no piece of leather will restrain an "in-flight" horse secured to a fixed object.

Hope that helps!

Sabre make lovely bridles, I have a couple of these for daily use, they've been going for years and look as though they will last a good few more.

Good choice, OP.

You'd have to search long and hard to find anyone who's had a problem with Sabre saddlery.

I recently treated my horse to a Sabre Cordoba bridle, it's luxurious and will probably last a lot of years. Well worth the expensive price tag

I have a few Sabre bridles - my favourites are their Cordoba bridles for every day work. I love them. They're supple, look lovely, and have lasted beautifully. Definitely worth the money.

I have a sabre bridle- nice well made everyday bridle thats lasting well. Also perfect for my funny shaped TB as pieces match & are interchangeable so he has full cheek pieces and cob noseband etc to create a perfect fit :). I then bought a second noseband for the bridle so have a cavesson & a grackle. Would buy another one :)

Thankyou Derfette! Thats fab! Will be going with the Sabre 'Hunter' English Cavesson bridle then!

+ Thankyou everyone else! :)

I also love my Sabre bridle... It came with my boy when I bought him in 1998 and he has worn it at least three or four times a week (daily in summer!) since then, in all kinds of weather and it is still beautiful and very supple. I usually use Jeffries cleaner on it with one of those little washing up sponges, but am not good at cleaning tack regularly so it doesn't get done nearly as often as it should! When I need another bridle (at the rate my current bridle is going, I will be needing another horse before I need another bridle!) I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Sabre.

Just to add... The comment about needing another horse before I'd need another bridle was meant to be an off the cuff joke, but I do remember a saddler telling me once that decent leather tack, well cared for, would easily outlive the horse it was bought for! I wonder if anyone on here has bridles that have been passed on from horse to horse/from their parents to them?

I love Sabre bridles and am on the hunt again for a new one for new lad, can't go wrong with them in my opinion.

They last well, last one I had lasted 10 years on my old lad and was still going very strong lovely soft leather.

Big Thumbs up for Sabre

I've had mine 15+ years and still use it very happily (not on the original horse either!).

The only two things i will say is 1) I think they come up slightly on the small size compared to some others (Barnsby for example) and 2) Mine now it's so old doesn't stay looking clean for so long, it seems to attract the grease!

Not a critisism at all, just points for anyone thinking of buying one!

The best saddle I ever sat in was a Sabre, wish they still made them!

My saddle is made by Sabre and despite the fact that it's ancient, a bit battered and has teeth marks in it from my fidget of a horse, I love it! He is sadly outgrowing it now so going to see if I can find a wider one!

I really rate Sabre bridles, they look smart, you get what you pay for and as long as you look after them they will last for years. Most of the hunters I looked after had Sabre bridles, they'd be cleaned thoroughly with hot water and glycerin soap each time after use, and oiled at the end of the hunt season and stored in a warmish room, then oiled again at the beginning of the season.

I've got a few Sabre bridles, they are my absolute favourites as all of mine are easily ten years old and still come up like new when cleaned. I use Stubben Hammol on mine and it brings them up a treat, plus I'm weird and I like the smell of it :o

You won't go wrong with Sabre stuff :)
