Does anyone use these and what are they like please? In particular the Lunar Eclipse supplement - I like the way it combines linseed, brewer's yeast, vitamin B and magnesium for all round condition and stress busting. I was thinking of using it instead of the Baileys Lo-Cal...
thanks

Yep. Don't use the lunar eclipse, but all our 4 (a HW ISH, a MW Trakhener, an arab and a 13hh laminitic pony) thrive on Lucibix. Hardly feed them anything, they have half to two thirds of a scoop of the soaked bix each in the evenings and the arab and pony have the same in the morning (arab because he is in pretty hard work - lunged/schooled 4 times a week, competes most weekends, pony because she is on a starvation paddock due to previous lami problems).
Can't recommend it highly enough, they all have plenty of stamina and energy, ISH and arab particularly were a pain before we swapped them on to this feed, really 'jittery' and hyper - and it has totally transformed them both!

hmm that is interesting, I was just planning on adding the supplement to the Alfa A she gets normally... I wonder how the lucerne-based feeds would compare with Alfa A? Presumably it is pretty similar just a different kind of grass?

Just a word of warning - the Lunar Eclipse isn't a feed balancer as such, so therefore not suitable as a replacement for such as Lo-Cal

Oh really? On the website it's described as being 'an effective complementary feed offering high levels of nutritional support, good quality proteins, natural B vitamins and extra magnesium' as well as the brewer's yeast and linseed so I assumed it would be pretty close?
On the baileys site Lo-Cal is described as having yeast, soya, molasses, vitamins and minerals bound with filler ingredients so can't see that there would be that much difference?
Not saying you're wrong just curious?!

I *think* Lunar Eclipse is specifically designed to balance out their own feeds? I also *think* but could be totally wrong that lucerne and alfa a are esentially the same thing? I believe SS selling point is that they don't add anything to the grass and they have a 'flash drying' process and that apparently maintains the maximum level of nutrients or something?!?
All I know is, it works, and its not expensive!

In which case you would think that Lunar Eclipse would probably complement Alfa A quite well with it being a similar forage based feed?
As for cost, I can't find any specific advice on quantities, but apparently a 5 kg supply costing £16 would last c. 1 month making it very slightly cheaper than the Lo-Cal.

I find SS in general more cost effective than the D&H feed I was using before, and tbh would happily have carried on with it even if it hadn't worked out cheaper, as the difference in my arab after I took him off anything with any kind of cereals in it was amazing!!
The only think is some areas they have to deliver in pallet loads so you's have to buy quite a lot of it on one go....fine for me as I just get 14 sacks of lucibix at £8 ish each - last me 3 months!

I use Lucie Nuts and their non molassed beet nuts. I mix it with Dengie HiFi and do add some D & H Pasture Nuts'
I have a real fizzy retired TB that doesnt struggle with weight in winter anymore. Always used to be lean throughout winter but not anymore. My other is a Welsh X TB and she is in medium work and does well on it also.
You do need to order quite a few bags but has a really long shelf life so works well. By rights I shouldnt need to add pasture Nuts but do anyway!!! The Total Eclipse is good stuff too, although the TB wouldnt touch it as it smells a bit "fishy" think its the seaweed in it!

My horse didn't take to SS feeds at all - I virtually had to force feed her! I did stick with it for over 6 months, but word of warning - it does calm fizzy horses down, but if you have a laid back one like mine they become virtually comotose!!!

Total Eclipse isn't a balancer replacement whatever they market it as, it doesn't have a full vit and min mix added.

Personally I think there are just as good feeds out there more readily available.

I love simple systems and use total eclipse as a forage booster, mine do not get any extra vits or minerals apart from salt lick. I use lucy nuts, ruff stuff and unmollassed beet. Went on to it 3 years ago and have never looked back. I think some horse strugggle because they are so used to having feed caked in mollasses, its like weaning children of fizzy drinks and convenience foods.

I changed my TBxID on to SS about 3 months ago and he is blooming. My vet was of the opinion that a small recurring allergy he had could be to cereals so recommended a change to a forage based diet as the first easy step before testing.

After much research with the different feed companies I chose SS. My boy gets Luciebix, beet, blue grass pellets and total eclipse. He has thrived on this and his allergy has not returned since the change. He has plenty of good energy without naughty fizz and he loves it. Because it is forage based he gets a huge feed morning and night which he really enjoys. SS will recommend a feed plan for you depending on the horse and his circumstances and what you want from him. I cannot recommend it highly enough!!

I thought this would be great for my mare and really wanted to switch her on to it...also, I know other people that feed it to their horses and are v happy with it.
Spoke to the nutrionist, who was very helpful and we sorted out what would be best for my mare...so got it all, introduced it gradually.............and my mare refused to eat it any of it!!!!!
Never got her to like it.....she would nibble a mouthful...then leave it. She is not a fussy eater either so we were rather surprised by her reluctance.
Well, I tried anyway!!!

Mine have been on SS feeds for about 18 months now - Cairo has a lot more stamina and Chancer has grown beautifully.

I feed green gold and lucie stalks. They also get brewers yeast and linseed and I also feed black sunflower seeds - this gives them all the vits and mins they need. Reason I don't feed total eclipse is I found the BSS to give them better feet and costs than the seaweed and they don't need both seaweed and BSS.

In winter they do get speedi beet and in the summer if I was to put a bit of condition and liven up Chancer for a championship I feed the red grass nuts - more energy than oats.

Would not change to anything else now - they get huge feeds of low cal pure fibre products and look great on it.
