opinions on spillers cool mix please :)

Hey,

I'm new here, but reading through all the posts here there is fantastic advice and everyone seems so friendly .

Anyway I was hoping I could get your opinions on spillers cool mix. I have a TB OTTH that can be very fizzy so I have to be careful what I feed her. I was thinking about changing her onto Spillers cool mix but wanted to hear others experiences before making final decision.

Although cool mix is less starchy than traditional mixes, it is still 20% starch, which might be too much for the sensitive horse. Spiller's High Fibre Cubes are only 10% starch by comparison. What is she being fed at the moment and why do you want to change?

hey there, I have a 4yr old Warmblood. He was on Coolmix when I bought him. Has been a particularly poor doer over winter and was swapped off onto non-branded nuts and chaff with the other liveries when we joined the yard, he lost alot of weight over 3 months and then was put on Coolstance/chaff to try to put weight back on but it didn't work for him and he actually bizarrely and utterly completely lost the plot out hacking one day and I drew the line.

He's now back on Spillers Coolmix, AlfaA Oil, pink powder, 16lb hay and 6lb haylage and he's putting weight, getting good topline and muscle nicely since January. His coat is glowing. Definately doesn't hot him up. Spillers advised to use the Conditioning cubes if I wasn't a) enough getting weight gain b) if the mix hot him up.
