Feeding ideas on getting his condition better?

He's cute but very weak. I dont like his limbs, they dont look strong and I reckon when he's filled out he'll be quite a hefty chap.
You could change his appearance quite a lot though- he'd be a fun project!
 
Weak but for me his feet would make me terribly wary. Low in the heel and his pasterns are long. I just do not like the axis.
 
I would want remedial farriery and him shod to xray pronto otherwise it wouldn't surprise me if he was lame within a year

The feet are so flat that they have altered the whole stance of his limbs. Get the feet right and the pasterns will look loads better and more correct,
You can tell from the way that he is standing that he is already suffering from heel pain, as he is trying to take the weight off his heels. I guess he moves pretty short in front?

He's a nice enough horse, once the feet are corrected his whole top line should change and he may look quite smart.
 
P.S I know how difficult it is to get a decent farrier, unfortunately too many farriers like to shoe in this fashion, with toes far too long,which is absolutely disgracefull!
 
Hes not mine (Yet...) I have a pretty decent farrier lined up for asap who should get them looking better, shorten the toes etc. It doesn't seem to effect him much, he moves nicely enough, quite sound, passed a five stage vetting in June (With out fault).
 
Get yourself another 5 stage vetting done before you make any decision. You cant use the one done earlier in the year for insurance purposes and there sould be any number of potential problems with him given his feet and legs at the moment.

He does look a nice sort but Id be incredible wary of those front legs and would want that to reflect very much in the asking price.

I wouldnt buy him personally but certainly have your farrier look at him and, as I say, get another vetting done before you make a decision.
 
i agree his feet look bad.
i think the pasterns look long but with feet properly trimmed he could look alot better
id say he needs work rather than extra feed.(although he may need more feed with more work)
 
The vetting was done when brought by past owner. He was imported from Ireland, I doubt he'd done much more then been backed, since he has been well schooled (He uses him self nicely and reguraly lunged - yet so weak?

) He's cross country schooled and lots of riding out, in the new forest etc.

Very under run heels. He looks like he needs his shoes extending behind for some heel support asap.

He does look quite "weak" but I'm sure he'd improve with correct work improving his musculature. If he was cheap enough and the vet thought his front feet could be sorted out, he looks like he could be a decent enough chap.

Agree with that! My horse at the moment is exactly the same. Now he has had a decent farrier look at him and x rays we are having special shoes on which will help him. He is so different now really flicking his toes out in trot compared to before.
