Shes nice enough - though the one above her sounds the same for a lot less money. Also the cob, Sheba coloured on a previous pae sounds like a nice little project horse. I think that horse Roxy has been for sale for a while, so you may want to enquire just how long.....
One thing to bear in mind when you go to try some horses is that they are going to sem awful strong compared to Castle but be ready for this and make sure to ride them a few times before making any decisions. I tried to moe from 12.22/13hh pony to a 15.1hh(who amazingly actuaaly measured in as a 14.2hh with the SJAI while i had her!) Irish Draught mare when i was 11/12 ( i was very tall for my age) and found myself completely over horsed. Luckily i had the mare on trial for 3 weeks. But after the first 10dasy i well hell-bent on buying her, it was only after a few lessons and my first show on her that i realised i was kidding myself. She was safe in that i could gallop her around her 10 acre field on her own with no hint of bucking or misbehavior, but at shows i couldnt slow her as she had a mouth of steel and nothing i tried would slow her down.
When we informed the owner that we wouldnt be keeping her, he refused to take her back, so she ended up staying with us for 5 mths and i did compete her a bit during tat time, but she was definitely too stong for me. I even got my friend, who was 16yo at the time to ride her a few times and he fond her very strong.
In the end I ended up buying a 14.2hh dun Connemara gelding in Ratoath. He was much more my size!
what on earth am i supposed to be looking at ?? I am a virgin to this and not sure if I have missed a link or not ... Please can someone enlighten me?? Where am I supposed to be looking for this horse??
Link is in the first post - click on 'second horse Roxy'. You know they're links on here if the words are purple.
They both sound very nice on the face of it, & Roxy looks good in the photo. I agree you need to look at both - you're probably put off by the suitable for a novice comment, but I think you should still make enquiries.
Can i be the one to buck the trend...
just look at its front leg tech. over a small simple fence!!! And it's 8yrs old..
i wouldn't even go and look at it!!
thanks zebedee - found it!! ~You dont own a chestnut mare brought from Dorset do you???
6000euro's for horse bred/trained in Ireland is a lot of money - Please shop around as there are a lot of horses for sale in Ireland .. Ireland has a very LARGE community of hunting horses.. Frontal of this horse is not the greatest and may take out poles with it's knees rather than the front of its hoof.. I am not sure what your discipline is but I would not give a second look for SJ it!
Hi another newbie! actually saw that horse today as I was in the yard looking at another horse(no go!), only saw her over the door but she seemed nice, YO said shes brill at hunting and xc and really easy to ride but then could have been giving me a speil!
Not my type either. One other thing to note, she may not ride well on the flat as seller has completely neglected to mention anything about her flatwork and since dressage is your thing, this may be important. Not quite so nb when you buy a youngster, but at the age of 8 id expect a horse to ride nicely on the bit at all paces.
Oh yeah, this guy often has nice cobs and horses fr sale. He lives near enough to me. Had a bad eperience with him and a then business partner f his many years ago when we had agreed to buy a gorgeous 14hh coloured pony from him and he said hed keep it and bring it showjumping training at a few venues and drop the pony off the follwing saturday when the money would be handed over. He sold the pony to the owner of the training venue in the meantime and didnt bother telling us. We rang that sat night after pony didnt turn up to be told he had already sold it. It was about 12yrs ago so you can imagine i was one very upset kid. Despite this I wouldnt hesitate to have a look at some of his horses, have looked at a few since then belonging to him, though didnt find any suitable. Still might be worth seeing if they have anything. His website isnt up to date though. Hrses seem to be the same as last year on it and i know for a fact many of them are now sold. http://www.pauldwyerhorses.com/index.php
Oh yeah, did track down that pony and went to view him 10days later. Pony had been turned out in a paddock since the day the people had bought him 2wks reviously dn they had still added a whopping IR£1800 to his price tag!! For a recently backed and extremely novice 14hh (barely!) 4yo coloured TBx gelding who had hunted just once and only once jumped a course of showjumps IR£3000 was very overpriced at the time!!
