opinions on this horse please?

thanks everyone - this has been super useful!

i too wondered about his hind end - his hocks are in the next county and he does not step underneath himself at all. Definitely a back to basics horse, but i like his attitude, he jumped everything asked of him and seemed quite willing.

OTOH, i am *really* concerned about that back end. I am quite confused, but im thinking he may be worth a look?

I don't think he is that bad! I would treat him like the 4 year old he is acting and go back to basics - for under 3k he isn't that bad ;)
I would assume that the rider had been socking him in the mouth over the fence which would explain the get over as fast as possible style, nothing that sympathetic riding wouldn't fix :)
He also looks quite careful behind, even with his style (expecting to be socked in mouth) so well worth a look imo. Will need work, but I think he could be quite a nice horse in the end :)

I think some people on here are being over critical. He looked green but honest and if he's not done much for 2 yr he will be like a 4 yr old. Given the price well worth a gamble.

I agree with Only Me. He is actually careful behind and is being given little or no help by his jockey. His paces are quite nice. Don't think he will be particularly easy to ride at first, but with time and patience I think could be a very nice horse.

I wouldn't buy him as a showjumper. but with schooling he might make a nice allrounder.

You'd be better off with an ex racehorse that would cost 1/3 of his price though.

This:)

He has a lively attitude , wants to do the job , very careful as a bonus , no fancy tackle , rider not helping definitely worth the money if no vices . You don't get much for 3 k these days . Def worth a look . Good luck :)

These days you get an awful lot more for 3k than you used to! That said I too like this horse looking at it with evener eyes. It appears well put together very green but understandably has a nice canter careful jump is bold and seems very trainable. Well worth a further look.

Not convinced by all the criticism of the rider, looks as if he is riding very defensively with a strong contact which suggests he is worried the horse is going to p!ss off with him. Agree that he needs to release more of the jumps but if you watch that water tray in particular where the horse was clearly anxious, horse landed and really tried to fly forward. Jockey may well have been told to prevent it happening for the video.

Horse to me looks unbalanced, inconsistent contact and disunited a lot. Also rather anxious and I thought he looks quite difficult to control, could well have been over-jumped, hotted up and generally frightened a bit too young so now running away from the fences. If he is being ridden 'for a sales video' jockey will have been told to keep him as steady and appearing as balanced and easy as possible. Hence the shoulders back, strong contact approach. I thought given his brief the jockey didn't do a bad job. Not his fault, horse is not really confident or ready for what he is being asked to do.

wow- suprised by the critisism this poor horse is receiving!! Its only 6 and has not done much so of course he is going to be green. He seems willing and has a go at all the jumps, no stopping, yes untidy but he had a go. He is not being sold for ££££££££'s as a professional showjumper!! Go and have a look, I think he could be quite nice!

True - but the negative comments are valid and means that OP will have her eyes open. I would go and have a look (again with "eventer" eyes!) as the horse seems bold and keeps jumping. Does look strong and agree the fence height isn't much but for under £3K I would look..

It's only in a snaffle hardly taking off ? We produce showjumpers and this horse has potential . 3k is a reasonable price for his level of ability and if you make an offer who knows ? Get a vet check done , check teeth and back but if you want a fun horse to jump he looks like he is more than capable of doing that job IMO :)

I ws expecting to see something awful, but tbh he is just an unbalanced weak horse, jumping teeny fences which don't require him to show any sort of technique at all!! Not sure where everyone is getting their under 3k horses who tuck up infront and kick back behind over 2'9 fences?!!

I personally wouldn't go and look at him as he looks herring gutted, shallow though his chest, and a bit weedy and strung out, buts that's cos I like "round" ponies ;) However, for the money, and if he's your type, I'd go and have a look, just with your eyes open :D

a real marmite horse then! i will go look at him - with eyes open and i have asked the owners if there has been any issues with the hind end - they have been bang on the button honest about this horse in their description before i saw the video, so hope they will keep being honest.

I looked at video again I really like him how is he bred and where is he ? He would def improve with the right work . Good luck let us know you get on

I thought he looked quite nice!
He looks weak and unbalanced and could do with a few decent osteo visits but I thought he was OK! I thought the rider wasn't brilliant but he wasn't that bad, he wasn't badly missing him or anything.
For under 3k I think he could be a nice project :).
