Opinions on this horse?

[ QUOTE ]
The truth of the matter is this horse does not have the best confirmation and yes it may only be for general riding etc but in the long term a horse with bad confo can be far more prone to medical conditions of the joints and back.

Of course the latter part of this statement is quite true, but it is also true the majority of much loved, very useful riding horses have far from 'perfect conformation' when you stand them up to scrutiny and still manage to provide years of pleasure to their owners without 'breaking down'. In fact, I would go as far as to say I've seen some pretty awful top level competition horses going around out there too - and still competing well into their teens.

I feel its unfair to tear this particular pony to shreds, or even to point out all of its less than desirable points in an open forum. The seller hasn't exagerated the pony in any way - isn't claiming it's a competition pony or anything. It's being sold as a useful ride suitable for adult or child to ride; Alone this is a selling point in my mind!

here's a coloured WB

my filly's dam is also a coloured warmblood

as this is her sire.

I would be extremely upset and angry if I found someone had posted my pony I intended to sell on a open forum asking for opinions on it! Especially if they weren't even interested in the pony. The seller never asked for a public CC, it seems a rather thoughtless act to post it on here.

Personally I think she's sweet and would make a lovely fit for purpose pony, not everyone is so strung up about conformation, just my opinion.

I actually thought how apauling their english was and that I thought mine was bad. Then I realised it wasn't actually english...

The first photo is not very good and the second one shows she has a strong wind blowing up her bum, nevertheless, she has a very short neck and back, her hind legs are too far underneath her.

However, many horses are less than perfectly built and she is certainly very pretty.

As for the colour, there are many polish and dutch warmbloods who are coloured, so she may very well be half TB/WB.

Also, there are plenty of small WB ponies.

I think it's "andsome is as 'andsome does"; if the pony does it's job safely then its irrelevant what it looks like. Would the "critics" of this thread like to put up pictures of their own horses so we can see how perfect they are?

I'm glad I'm not alone, was beginning to think others were thinking I was being over the top!

FWIW, I actually think mare could be a nice sort for what she is advertised as. I wouldn't turn her away just on the strength of those pictures, think she'd be a lot nicer in the flesh. The only thing of benefit this post might have done is generate more interest in the mare so let's hope she finds a good home from it.

not going to comment on the ad but as for TB x WB being coloured the stallion Orlando is a coloured warmblood and was put to a friend's bay TB and bred two reg'd foals one of which is doing v well in stressage

(said horse is pocahontas II)

That's usually the way when you're being criticised in public and it's not nice is it, so imagine now how that owner would feel if she should ever hear about this thread.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think the owner would be too bored to even get past page 1 of this thread, it is rather dull and quite repetative.

It amuses me that although various other people posted opinions on the horse it's only my opinions that have caused offence, next time I'll sugar coat my opinions for fear of the fallout.

and to all the others who said you can't get coloured TB's or WB's....

yes you can.

Sorry, this is meant in reply to Silver Spring, not myself!

Have to agree with you Quickfire.

Please think for a minute before you post folks. That was a damning criticism before and if I was the owner, I would not be happy, that was almost defamatory TBH.
If you don't like something, fair enough, say so but don't give an in depth destructive appraisal, that isn't fair to the owners or even to the person who eventually buys this pony; who wants people tittering behind their back? None of you would like it, I know that much!
Please think before you write on open forum next time if it is an advert you are criticising; the owners haven't asked for a critique, they are trying to sell their horse not have its appearance scorned, unlike when some posters on here actually ask for your comments.

[/ QUOTE ]

I replied to Quickfire's post in the first place, but I did not name you personally; I didn't name anyone and there were several others quite seriously derogatory too; but you had not been singled out in the first place. Other replies to you were made to you because you answered me, I tend not to use QR as a matter of courtesy and it can cause confusion.
If all this means that people (everyone, not just you!) are a bit more careful when criticising an advert that has nothing to do with them personally and without the knowledge of the advert owner, then all well and good, just please don't be cruel about it in future. If it was your horse they were unknowingly slating, you would be mortified I'm sure. End of story.

Whoops I missed all these replies!

Just got back from work.

The reason I asked was because I DO know this horse, she belonged to a friend. She was sold on after 6 months of going lame on and off, to someone who would not be riding her - for a nominal sum. 5 months later turns up for sale again. Seems like shes one of those that get passed on, and round it goes, from meat man to owner, back to meat man etc
Long story, and most of it I won't put on a public forum. Maybe she has come sound, and thats great if she has.
She is pretty though, and coloured - which is no doubt the reason for all this.

I wondered if anybody had any ideas conformationally that made her unsound thats all, as I always thought "something wasn't quite right".

You missed all the fun!

Poor mare, what a bad life she's had already and she's not that old is she? Just shows you that sometimes the best plans go wrong and certainly, for me, anyway, another reason why I won't pass any on as companions, I'd rather they end their days here than risk them going from pillar to post unless I can absolutely guarantee their future. Sadly, it happens even when you sell, you have no hold over their future even if you have taken the greatest care to find good homes; it's a sad fact of life now, a person's word is not their bond any more.

I'll pm you with my observations for what their worth, I don't want to fall into the trap of doing it on open forum; that would be pot - kettle - black!!
