Description:
lovely horse with excellent paces and serious jump. has won numerous open hunter trials and been placed many events and competed show jumping. Has qualified for the pony club eventing championships for the last two years in the members (1.05-1.10). has definite potential and unfortunate sale due to college. not beginner ride.

I like him a lot, but I was thinking that I'd probably be overhorsed. All opinions appreciated, please be completely honest too!

Not a beginers ride tends to mean its quirky IMO, find out what they mean by that!! Could simply be they dont want him going to a novice but I doubt it. Looks nice though, but a big jump from your pony to a 16.2 TB

You'd be going from a 12hh something to a 16'3 that is described as "not a novice" horse. I think you would be completely overhorsed. Look for a 15hh-15'2.

IMHO i really think 16.3 will be far too big for you. You're only around 14 aren't you?!

And going from Castle to him will be a HUGE change (not just in size). IMO you want a 15-15.2.

I do agree he is lovely though, and i like him a lot.

You might be a little overhorsed, i dont know though, castle is 12.3 you say and a chunky type so a bit steady, i know you might jump down my throat by saying that but i dont mean as in dopey etc. This horse is a tb and 16.2 so not quite what you are used to, Its totally your choice, you know how you ride how confident you are, so up to you, nice horse though good luck finding one xx

Looks like a lovely horse, but probably too big a step for you at the moment if you are riding a pony at present. 15hh would be a nice size to progress to imo.

He seems a childs/teens horse from the description, and having seen your video of XC schooling on YourHorse website, I think you seem quite confident.

He looks a lovely horse, why not try him and see how you feel? This could be your horse of a lifetime, and also it could be your worst nightmare. Do you ride any horses apart from Castle?

TBH I think you'd be overhorsing yourself by an awful lot.

Sorry hun, but I think going from Castle to a 16.3 TB described as a not novice ride is much too big a jump. I agree with what the others said - try looking for something 15-15.2 ish. There's no reason why you can't get a 15hander and if and when you're ready, move on to something like that.

Yeah, I thought it would be a big leap, I'm about 5ft 4, but haven't seen anything nice that's around 15.2hh

A good oppurtunity will come along soon though!

If you pony now is 12.3hh i would go for say 14.2-15hh should take you through your teens and abilty. Hes nice but a mans ride. I have a 16.2hh to make 16.3hh and its really not that fun.... its a lot of horse to hold together, a long fall, alot on one little foot if teads, a big jump, being on a bolting horse like this is no joke, also its a pain in the butt mounting wise!! Let alone grooming trying to groom his head or put a brilde on when you cant reach and he happily puts his head higher! I would try a few horses of all sizes and types and deside what suits you most.

Thats a lot of horse, particularly when he's then described as "not a beginners ride". Im 5ft 11 and my horse isn't even that big

Personally I'd wait it out.. something WILL come along and given your height, I'd opt for something a bit smaller. It's an enormous jump from your pony to that.

I went from a 13.2 M&M to a 17hh warm blood, at first I was very very overhorsed, but I got used to him, I had been riding my parents horses a bit before so guess that helped, you will be up against adults at competitions too. I would say it is a step too far, but its your choice, ther is no similarity between a 12.2 and a 16.3 TB none at all, why not meet in the middle and go for a 15hh ish like others have suggested. Dont be tempted by the cheap price either!!!

Will have to agree with the others, while that horse looks lovely, I think you'd struggle if your current ponys 12.3. I m looking to move onto horse off my 14hh pony and i ve been to try quite a wide range of horses and i ve found big 16.2's a huge step off my pony!

good luck with your search though!

5'4ft... I sold my pony whos 13.3hh to lovely girls
wink.gif
i guess that size and i'd say shes a good size for them. How old are you? I would srs go for a nice large pony/small horse 14.2/15.2hh max!

I'm quite short (5'6 on a good day) and I have a little 15'3 TB -my little pocket rocket!!! I love riding him as I can get my leg around him and get him engaged - I've been known to say I would never ride anything much bigger. However, I've just started riding my YM's mare who is 16'3 ish (and the rest) and even though she has gone quite sweetly for me so far I am really struggling to get her properly engaged and to move forward of my leg - and she is, I would say, a fairly easy horse of that size. I would be out of my comfort zone if she wasn't as easy, but then you may have tonnes more confidence than I have!

I'm 14 in July, and want to do Junior eventing, and have a horse I can have for a few years

I'm going to look out for a while for a 15.2hh ish horse

I know finding ponies in ireland is ment to be hard, but everything over here that does well is imported from ireland.. I would of thought a nice full up connie *After all i was riding one who evented to a very high level and he was 25years!* but def crossed with a pony like nfxtb or conniexId etc! If your looking long term i would hold in there!

Nice horse but please dont overhorse yourself i have seen it done so many times and people who overhorse themselves dont have nearly as much fun as the rest of us and after all for most of us that is what riding is about!

Yes! I love this horse! He has a lot of scope, looks to be forward thinking and is beautiful, for that price, if you get on with him you should go for it! Although I don't know what you are used to riding, You shouldn't buy any horse that you cannot cope with.

Try him in his own surroundings and away if possible...to see how you feel.

Plus, he has a snaffle in his mouth- that is also a very good sign that he is trainable and rideable. Most people say their horses are not a novice ride, because what competition horse is? None are!

let us know what happens!!

I think I recognise him!!
grin.gif
Nice horse but he'd over horse you by miles if it is he one I'm thinking of

I think he is wonderful, HOWEVER, why buy a horse when a good old Connie of 14-2hh will do you for a good while yet! I hate the fact I am way to tall to ride ponies - ponies rock the world - you should know that having Castle! Also, knowing how much you love to hunt, you need to ensure the horse will do everything you want it to - seriously, you dont want over 15hh for at least 2 years yet!
