opinions on this horse

Ya I thought something wasnt quite right about the legs either especially in the one with the rug on! That price would be average here as oppose to a good price which I understand it would be in the UK

Very hard to judge from those pics but she looks cow-hocked in the first pic (on top row), not great front legs in it either. But they are a terrible selection of photos!
She looks a bit weak all over, which would often be the case with ID/ part ID horses. I would expect her to continue to grow and fill out for another 1-2 years- she's got a decent chest to her (sunny pic). She could finish up more heavyset than she is now. What level of eventing is your friend talking about?
Plus points- she's seems a very genuine & honest sort, huge ears which I love, good colour and a kind eye. She seems happy doing everything she's being asked to do in the pics.
Definitely worth a look if she's not a million miles away.

I was only looking at this add today!

I thought she was very coarse in the leg, I liked her breeding, she seems to have a nice attitude, but I thought of her as more of a hunter/allrounder/happy hacker than anything high performance.

However attitude is half the battle and she looks to have a good one, it's really something when they're on your side!

She's a grand sturdy mare, lots of substance, which is rare now, and is a nice type. It is something rapidly disappearing from the mare herd. It all depends on her confo.

I can't decide on her confo from those pics, but I don't think she's awful. In the rug photo, she's standing on uneven ground in a weird way, I don't think she's that sickle hocked, and the first pic of her standing in her tack she is standing weird as well, I don't think it's a true representation of her confo. She isn't too long in the pastern which I like, good angle to hoof etc. I can't stand long sloping pasterns which the TB can bring to a half bred, makes a weak leg. There's some difference in load between a TB and a chunky half bred!

How hard is it to stand a horse up in a headcollar in a yard flat ground?! In fairness, it's far from the worst!!

ETA I would ask of they can send a pic of her stood up on level ground. She will mature into a substantial mare, I would worry about time penalties! Low level she's ok maybe, but would want an extra cross of TB to make an eventer IMO.

Oh the photos have me driven mad! If your going to go to the effort of placing an ad and paying for it the least you could do is get a good side on pic on even ground and maybe one of her jumping too given thats what she is being sold as.

Id imagine the eventual aim would be something that could jump around a novice course comfortably enough, while she does seem like a lovely horse I see her more as a riding club and hunting horse than anything else especially if she fills out a bit more!
Shes very close like a half an hour I think so might be worth going to see anyway

Hi Gadetra, just wondering what do you like about her breeding? Is it the particular sire and dam or just the ID x TB?
Sorry to hijack your post OP!

It bugs the bejesus out of me too. I mean you have a camera, the horse in front of you, why not do it properly? The crap competition photo's too, half of horse going over jump. one of it's behind over a jump, a head over a ditch, a gate etc. Why when you're looking at an animal everyday how ya can't take a quick pic of it stood up at least is beyond me.

Rant over! I would actually really like to see a pic of her stood up now to satisfy my curiosity in her!

Good luck on the viewing, she is a nice type, legs withstanding!

No problem, I would be interested to know too as even though I am from the area I have not heard of either of them!

While Im here gadetra as your form Ireland have you heard anything about west coast cavaliers offspring, hes oldest would only be 4 or 5 now but my neighbour has a few for sale. He is overstocked so the 4 year old unbroken filly is only 600 euro as he needs rid asap.

Hi Maxie just seen your post there.
I was interested in her because she has no KOD/Clover hill/Pride of shaunlara/Huntingfield rebel in her ID side, and her TB side has no Northern Dancer in it. :biggrin3:

Dam goes back to Blushing Groom who I really like in and ISH pedigree

Thanks Gadetra, I cross-posted with you (see above )...have I got the right sire? He seems to have KOD on both sides?

Don't know anything about him to be honest, I seen a yearling by him and he was lovely but other than that not a thing!

NA2\C3 COLTSTOWN KING ID 2005 STAR KINGDOM Classified: 2008

COLTSTOWN KING (S2)
2005 GREY IRISH DRAUGHT STALLION
Star Kingdom x Diamond Silver

Looks like he's got King of Diamonds on both sides according to this:

http://www.idshs.com.au/perl/search.pl?op=tree&index=coltstown_king&gens=5

True but the stallion is not over used, it's far back enough and the mare is more substantial than some RID's you see now so see piqued my interest. I love a butty broodmare!

No problem I hope I made sense? I like to see what the substantial mare's are by/out of so I can look out for the stallion/particular cross in the future. I am also a bit of a nerd :eek3:
