I have recently come across a nice little pony so I emailed the owner and requested some pictures and I was sent these, he is apparently 4yro backed but turned away due to no rider.
Could i have your opinions on him please, do you think he could make a good allrounder (say if he had the personality to match) or for some reason would you not touch him with a barge pole?
He looks to have a long back, do you think so? Could this cause a problem with work or resale?
So far he sounds like a nice little chap.
So from appearence alone, what do you think?
From what the owners have said he seems like a nice little pony, but obviously he could be the total opposite. He is been sold from the field but is apparently good in every way.

I understand he will be more work than a ready horse, I would say I am ready but obviously that is biased but hopefully if i need any help I will get advice from my tutors and fellow liveries.

Not my cup of tea, even with weight on he is still going to be quite fine, nothing really stands out to be honest and he looks about as developed as a 2yr old or evena yearling, not a 4yr old.

Sorry.

this is a bit random...and might just be me...
but does anybody else think that in the jumping pic it looks as if his foot is in the middle of the two poles?
weird...
umm...he looks fine to me, very fine and spindly looking though so bear in mind rugs stabling etc. all the things that go with that (as i understand you wanted to take him to uni if you got him- from reading another of your posts?)
Looks the right type for a showjumper though to me.

i think he looks sweet! and he's only a baby, so give him time! my girl was as weedy as anything at 5 years old, now she's a different horse, and has a wide fitting saddle! he has a lovely face with nice eyes, he looks honest. so if you like him, go with your gut instinct!

[/ QUOTE ] i completely agree i was just about to say he doesnt look very scopey as he doesnt look to be clearing that very well...but hey.

without seeing any stationary side on's it's hard to say for certain but he looks long in the pastern, has a ewe dip in front of withers, his shoulder is a little upright for my personal taste, and narrow in front, not an "easy on the eye" allround appeal for me.

and yes, my guess would be he "fell" over that jump rather than actually jump it.

It's hard to tell from the pics but his conformation and jump don't look very good and he doesn't look very well developed for a 4yo. I would be very careful buying something that has been backed and turned away and is being sold from the field, you can end up with big problems.

I think that with the right training, patience & feed he could grow into a handsome little chap. Lovely little face. Woud be intersted to see how you get on

I think he really needs to develop some muscle but he looks quite sweet. It depends what you want to do with him really. If you just want a RC allrounder I don't see why he wouldn't be just fine

Thank you all for your in put, his jump looks much better in the video than in that picture!
I do agree that it will be a big risk buying him from the field, and that he does look very under developed. I am going to consider him but also be weary, if I decide to go and see him I will be taking my camera to try and get some confo pictures.
Thanks

I think he looks like a real sweety, yes he is very fine and needs alot of weight and topline but come on look at those fields, look a bit sickly to me,which makes me wonder about the quality and quantity of hard feed and hay he has been fed??i think if he passes the vet it would be nothin that some good quality feeding coupled with a decent fittening programme wouldnt cure!!I would follow your instincts on this one!!!x
