I am going to be looking at doing the elem freestyle to music shortly, now do I use the same music I already have (Jungle Book

!) and make up a new floor plan or do I start from scratch? Is it usual to change the music or stay with the music you already know fits your horse well? What do you all think?
 
Can't really help but was wondering when the next music test was as I know we tend to compete in the same areas.
If you like riding to that music and you think it really suits him then stick with it and just change your floor plan.
 
Hiya, have to admit I haven't checked the schedules as Patrick is only just going out and competing again.
I do like riding to the Jungle Book so may well just change the floorplan I just wondered if a change of music would be good too. I don't want people to start saying 'oh its her she always rides to Jungle Book' as I enter the arena

If it suits and you have not done it that much stick with it...........or it may take you months of looking like it has done for me!!!! Also if you like it and it "gets you going" as such then keep to it... keep it up two three four!!!

I had a horse who I had been very successful with in the freestyles. He placed 2nd at the nationals. I then sold him, but ended up buying him back again 4 months later.

We duly qualifed for the regionals again, so I thought it must be time for a change of music. I got some different music and this time I only made it through to the nationals thanks to a wild card. For the Nationals I reverted back to his old music and we placed 4th.

The moral - DON'T change your music.

whilst you may think you've ridden to it for a while the judges only see you for those few minutes that they judge you. they then go on to judge however many other people. I don't think they will dwell on the matter of how long you have been riding to the same music.

Stick to what you know and what you know the judges seem to like.

If you are adjusting your novice music so that it suits an elementary floor plan then I would suggest plan your choreography and then refit the current music you like around the new floor plan.
 
The onl thing i will add is make sure, especialy as this horse is coming back to work, that he still fits the music. Often as the horse developes or if he has time off the way inwhich he moves [cadence and rhythm ] change.
I find this a particular problem with my young horses and the music that worked at the begining of the year quite often is'nt quite right at the end of the year as they have developed their way of going as they have become stronger.
 
Thank you Partoow another very good point I hadn't even considered, I have a school booked next weekend to run through my existing routine before Patchetts and have a play with the music next weekend so that is something I will definitely bear in mind. Thank you.
