Icey wore a bridle for the 1st time yesterday. I undid 1 cheekpeice and popped it on her head then just held the bit under her mouth. She picked it up out of my hand without me doing anything and stood there looking really proud while mummy (me) took pictures and Beau looked on in disgust!!!

The bit was a bit big, being Beau's but she seemed happy enough. I bitted Beau in one of these and she went well. (Happy mouth french link jobby with roller in centre)

Does anyone have a good arguament for a mouthing bit? Ice is a bit of a flid and I actually think the keys would annoy her!! May sound silly but she used to be a real flutter-budget to handle and I don't want to rock the boat. As i need to buy her a bit of her own in her size I may as well look into the options.

Not too keen on the whole saddle thing tho . . .

i've never used a mouthing bit, can't see the point. most youngsters being bitted for the first few times mouthe whatever you put in anyway! i start with a soft nathe straightbar usually, or a plain black rubber snaffle, or perhaps a sprenger with middle lozenge, depends on horse, size of mouth etc.

i used a copper roller to start with it it is warmer feeling in there mouth so the lather more and play with the rollers!

I think that mouthing bits with the keys on them only encourage horses to play with them and then a bit further down the line with the schooling they get their mouths strapped shut for "being gobby"
