I've recently started playing at dressage & decided this morning I wanted a 'posh' dressage saddle.
Obviously, this might just be a passing fad & I might not want to head over to the dark side of BD. I'm still just messing about doing Beginners prelims & local unaff prleims but its fun so far..

So i trotted off to Ebay & came across http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-german-lord-DR...1QQcmdZViewItem

opinions on it please?

ETS: I'll be keeping my GP for day to day use as well.

Can't comment on the saddle as I no nothing about dressage saddles but does ebay talk to anyone else when they open that link?

i really like the saddle.
off topic but another page i went on, on ebay ages ago played a song. it was a p1ss take song all about ebay. think it was by weird al yankovic and it was a remake of a back streets boy song lol

No wouldnt touch a saddle that cost 90 odd pounds. Indian leather no doubt and eugh, no. Sorry I find it hard comprehending that anyone would even buy a saddle without knowing if the fit was suitable (eg knowing what type of saddle suits your horse)... My mare spent a week in a poorly fitting saddle and it threw her out ... IMO you could end up spending more money on back treatments etc from a bad saddle than it would cost you to buy (albeit a synthetic one) from a decent saddler who fits it!

Rah, sorry of course this is just my opinion and no debate starter intended!

I have sound turned off , thank goodness, but I think the bearing surface for contact with the horse is very narrow.
Not one I would choose to ride on or put on my horse.

I would orefer to go to a saddler who stiocks Wintec and Thorogood synthetic dressage saddles and try some to ride in and for fit and spend about 300.

Gosh the voice was weird. In my experience of Ebay (and a number of unused purchases that sit in my tack room!) if it sounds too good to be true then it is. Wouldn't touch it I'm afraid you would be better off with an inexpensive second hand one that you could sell on if you go off dressage - have it fitted by a pro though.

Don't be tempted. As others have said you will spend more money on solving the problems it creates.

IMO saddles are items you should really not scrimp on. Investing in a good qulity one will save you (and horsey) in the long run

So its really bad then?

I'm not sure why.. is it the price putting people off?

What is bad is that you have no idea if it will fit your horse. Are all size 6 shoes the same fit? No - some shoes will fit perfectly, some will be too small and some too big! Saddles are the same - a medium in one make may fit well but a medium in another be too small. Imagine wearing shoes that are too small for your feet - ouch! its the same for your horse. Get a saddler out to fit you a saddle - a second hand synthetic that can be adjusted would be a better bet than a new saddle of bad quality that may be a terrible fit. Most saddlers have second hand saddles in stock so it needen't break the bank

What is Steven Hawkins doing selling saddles...... has he not got enough money????

To be honest a saddle that costs £90 can only be crap.... even a decent second hand one will set you back much more than that.

I dont think you even need to have a dressage saddle to start having a go at dressage. Loads of people (me included)compete in gp saddles.

Maybe the words you use 'starter saddle' could be more discriptive than you think.......... it could be what starts your huge bill with the back lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and a 'vibrating wooden tree' !!!!!!!!!!
there's novel!

Just look at the underneath, two rounded rolls of padding to take all of your weight on to the horses back.!

Do you normally ride in a 16 1/2 saddle
Does ''Medium; alwasy fit?

I was planning to have the saddler check it before I sat on it, sorry, should have mentioned that! Feel a bit dumb now *blushes*

Thanks for the advice guys, going to pop into the saddlers Tuesday before looking on ebay
