Hey,

This is prob a bit of a weird post!! anyhoo - just wanted peoples opinions.

Started riding a horse about 1 and a half years ago for a lady - was a bit spooky and always questioned stuff i asked him to do. Used to carry a stick when jumping as he could try and take the P a bit but when i had the stick (didnt hit him or anything) he would be like ok then no taking the P or i will get a smack on the @ss.

Anyways we started doing bsja again last weekend (newcomers) warmed him up and then went and walked the course - was a bit spooky so thought better carry my stick.

So got on with my stick and tried to pop him over 2 jumps before i went in to ring - he was like "no way am i jumping" and he kept refusing

So had to go into newcomers with him refusing - went in and thought im going to throw away my stick - then he went round and jumped a double clear. Not spooky at anything?

Is that weird - what do you think?

echo that! I groomed for a mate years ago who had a cracking little JA pony. Total tw*t in the warm up, ears back squealing at others, knocking fences. Get her in the ring and she was a different pony! We reckoned she 'got off' on the atmosphere.

I suppose they realise that they are about to jump (most horses LOVE jumping), and the fact that there is a course out there means that they are in heaven! Plus once they start concentrating and enjoying themselves they don't really pay attention to the surroundings.
