We have just been offered a park trust field in Milton Keynes, it is just around the corner from us (walking distance) very secluded which backs on to a few very posh houses, although there are no bridal ways there are plenty of red ways which join up onto a few nice bridal ways. Also cheaper than our current livery yard, just weighing the two opinions up really.

We have a mare with foal at foot but are a bit worried about the weaning process as they will be the only two horses around; I know you wean from 6 months onwards. How long can this take? We are keeping the foal but we do not want them to become un-separable.

Also posted in breeding.

Regardless of when you wean, both are going to need company and distance. You can usually put them back together after about 6-8 weeks.

You'd probably be better off getting a little companion pony to keep the mare company and think about sending the foal off somewhere for several months to play with other babies. When it comes home, equally, you'd need to ensure that you have something that can keep it company in the field when your mare is taken out for any reason.
