I was just wondering what everyone's opinions on Readigrass are? Or Graze-On, either way, they're the same thing aren't they?
I'm off out to get some this morning & wondered if you all think it's a good idea..?
I've got an 8 year old Welshie mare who is rather podgy & really doesn't need to be putting on any more weight (out of work due to slight injury) & an almost 18 month old ID x TB mare who is up to weight at present but I don't want her to put much more weight on as the pressure on her bones & joints at this age wouldn't be a good idea..
So I was thinking that Readigrass might help them both
According to the lady at my yard who advised me to use it, it's got all the nutrients of regular grass but doesn't put any weight on them.
My mares are turned out 24/7 at the moment (for however long the weather holds up) but their paddocks are rather sparse & there generally isn't as much goodness in the grass at this time of year anyway.
The 8 year old has one feed a day which consists of one small scoop of Hi-Fi original, a handful of Cool Mix, a scoop of D-Itch supplement (the reason for her having a feed) & a carrot or two & an orange.
The 18 month old also has one feed a day, consisting of 3 small scoops of Hi-Fi, half a scoop of Cool Mix, D-Itch supplements, an apple and some carrots.
I was wondering whether you guys think they would do alright with some Readigrass everyday, some haylage when they come in & cutting the feed out/down.
I would like to take the 8 year old off hard feed if possible, or keep her on as little as possible of the above through the winter once the weather becomes more harsh.
I'd like to cut down how much the 18 month old has, since I've heard that the best idea for youngsters of that age is to not be given hard feed.
Any advice much appreciated
