Some of you might remember I posted a while ago about whether the sort of horse I want when i graduate in a year exists...........

well pretty much found him!!! (of COURSE its a year to bloody early tho isnt it!)

However, there is no price on the advert so was wondering what you all would price him as....

http://www.horsequest.co.uk/
show horses, county level, quality m/w show hunter/working hunter, the 17hh dappled grey 7yo........

Just so I have an idea of what that sort of horse would be expected to fetch......... (so i know whether to set sites higher or lower or just right!

thank you!

I'm not an expert but i woundn't think this horse would be cheap. It's qualified for hoys twice. My guess would be 15 - 20k. It looks lovely and my boss who is into showing just said that's what she would ask for it.

sorry mrs m! I wish there was a way to directly go THIS ADVERT RIGHT HERE (like on every other horse website, but no..... this one doesnt does it!

)

Laura- ye bit of a bugger that it qualified for htem.......... right I need to find this horse, (maybe not even grey.... = less cleaning

) and have it not have qualified for anything....... hmmmmmmm

But ye £15k is WAY out of my price range (shame! woud loev it to be my price range!)

when I get him (it has to be a him! me and mares are not generally a good combo!) I want to do at least county level showing, dressage, and jumping..... if I feel safe enough (eventually) hopefully xc, or hunter trials etc and I really enjoyed my hunting experience so that too

so basically an all rounder but showing and dressage are the main 2 points Id like to focus on!

(am I asking too much do you think?)

Not impossable. But hard to find. My ex bought a horse that i did show hunter at county level (he would have done workers but i don't jump and ex didn't show

) I also did elem dressage (he could have gone higher if i was still riding him we where just starting changes at home) and my ex hunted him. He could have show jumped and done xc to if i had been braver. My ex payed about £5000 for him. What a bargin he was. They are out there but you have to find them. Let me know if you need any help looking i can always pick my bosses brain as to if the horse looks anygood for showing.

If you are willing to get a youngster I would definitely contact www.yewtreefarmirishsportshorses.co.uk they bring over a small selection of Irish, very good quality horses, I bought a 4 year old full ID from them, he has top bloodlines and will mature at 16.3, the first show I went to I was badgered by the stewards and judges to get him to County straight away! Unfortunately due to a field injury he has been on box rest since then, but when sound again he will be out there. So it isn't impossible, and if you want a horse of that caliber then you are looking at the Irish!

I would be willing to take on a slightly younger horse, however I am also aware that being a vet (when i graduate) will mean I wont necessarily have enough time to do a youngster justice and I intend my first horse to be a horse for life (after waiting so long for one)
and I dont want to waste a youngster with loads of potential just due to me not having enough time to bring them on enough for it (does that make sense? not that I dont have enough time for a horse, but I am aware youngsters take more time etc than a slightly more established horse...)

I have seen the yewtree website though and they have some lovely horses! I was thinking 6-7yo would be about the right for me....... but this will prob mean the horse will costs more won't it?!!

Honestly - I would never say never!

My 4 year old has a brain like a 12 year old, very quick to learn and one of the easiest horses I have ever had and also nannied my older horse.

If you get the right one, with the right head, it will be no more work than an older one that is harder to teach. Plus if you are looking at something 6/7 years old it is more likely to have a competition record meaning worth more money.

Good luck with your search and don't be afraid to call up horses that are POA, my boy was and I nearly lost out on him because I thought he would be out of my price range, luckily for both of us - he wasn't!
