I would really appreciate people's opinions on this horse, I went to see him on Friday and quite liked him

He is a really sweet boy and a forward going comfy ride but a couple of things bother me

1) He was quite heavy on my right hand (could just be my broken finger that side

) and owner said he does tend to 'set his neck'
2) I know this may sound awful but he's very hairy

I know he's a cob but I'm not a fan of feathers and long manes (don't shoot me down please!) and wouldn't know where to start with dealing with them

3) I noticed some lumpy bits just inside his sheath is this something to worry about, obviously I'll ask if I go back.

Just want people's opinions really as I'm all at sea here (I realise he's not a Welsh C as did the owner she just likes to thnk he is??!)

No definitely not a welsh C!!

'Quite like' wouldnt be enough for me to go back and see him again Im afraid but if you do want to have another view take an instructor with you and have them ride and assess him for you. Looks like he will always be heavy in the hand though purely for conformation.

As for the hair....buy some clippers, so many horses that look like nothing special (no disprespect) look stunning once they have had the ultimate haircut.
 
The hacking out alone thing would bother me for a general riding horse. He sounds nappy, can you always hack out with another horse?
 
Hmm , looks as though he could be heavy on his forehand ( might explain his ' setting his neck' .) This can be tiring for the rider & poss make him a bit strong , but it is so hard to tell from photographs .

What sort of riding do you want to do with him ?

I agree - you need to take someone who knows you & your riding & take it from there . Good Luck !

PS - I like his feathery bits , but someone could sort them out for you .

looks a lot chunkier than that!
he does look heavy etc but if you liek him then go ahead but as said above, take an instryctor.
 
I want him to go hacking (it only says hack in company because he hasn't seen much traffic as he lives in a v.rural area, but he's had no trouble with tractors, single decker buses and so forth), do some schooling and perhaps v.novice dressage and pop some v.small jumping classes. I want something to have fun with and who will be my friend!!
 
'quite like him' does not ring the 'I need to buy him' bells with me. If he was the horse for you then you would be jumping up and down wanting to go back......I would of thought, thats just me though, maybe I'm just a fruitcake

Me again - sorry !

I'd ask to see him hacking out as suggested by Bossanova . It can be that large vehicles won't bother him , but smaller ones can ( I had a horse that ignored buses & lorries , but got in a right lather over bicycles ! )

I do like him though & hope it all works out for you .
 
With the hacking try him on his own to see how he behaves. May also be worth trying him in company (both in front and behind) then you can see how excited he may or may not get and if he is happy to lead or go last without getting worked up.

Thank you all, after having a long and very honest chat with the owner I have decided that he is not the man for me. I also spoke to a horsey friend who like you guys said when you find the ONE you will know and will be desperate to do anything to secure him.
