Opinions wanted !!!

Hi
I was just wondering what eveyones opinions are on the amount of work my 4yo should be in she was backed etc 8 weeks ago and has been back in work for the last 3 weeks now .?
Whats your opinion of how much and what type of work she should be in ?

I would probably work her 4-5 days a week at the moment, mostly hacking with perhaps two shortish sessions in the school. Important at this stage to keep things easy to build her confidence. Short sessions in the school will stop her becoming stale and lots of hacking will expose her to new things and help her learn. Lots of slow positive work at this stage will make a lovely well rounded youngster that enjoys her work. I hate to see young horses drilled every day in a school - it is a big bugbear of mine! What do you plan to do with her?

Try to keep it varied. Maybe school her for ten minutes in a flat field on a hack instead of always being in the school. Find little logs and ditches out hacking. etc etc etc. Just keeps their focus and enjoyment. Good luck, she looks lovely

About 4 times per week, or every other day would be plenty I think. I just pottered with my mare when she was that age (backed the previous December). We might have gone to the forest park for some different surroundings, and hacked out with the odd canter (making her go in front).

Planning on doing a bit of unaff dressage for a couple of months and then aff. her as dressage is my comfort zone

but if I can find someone brave enough ( as i'm not ) B.E as she is sooo brave . You may catch me going round and intro course but no further

As already said, hacking should be the base of youngsters work at that age IMHO. It builds their strength and helps them see lots of different things without boring them!! Lots of schooling etc can be bad for developing joints, or though a couple of shorter sessions a week wont do her any harm. Good luck with her, look forward to seeing regualr updates
