What would you do? I'm so confused, one lovely user on here has offered to take my boy on loan to spend some time reschooling him and sorting him out it is all perfect except that it means getting him up north and the cheapest quote i've had so far for transport is £400, that is just him travelling on his own.
Why oh why doesn't she live near surrey? It's just what he needs some TLC with someone understanding and it means that if things ever get sorted I could have him back.
I just don't have any money at all at the moment i've just had to borrow to pay my livery bill!!
What can i do, and don't forget got to do something pretty damn quick, horse getting rapidly fed up with being out with no shelter 24/7.
HELP!!!!

Is there any possibility that the person who has offered to take your horse would pay for the transport, sell the horse on your behalf and take a comission (plus the cost of transport)?

Just an idea - or would it be cheaper to hire a trailer and take the horse up yourself?

Can you send your horse on a shared load? it would be much cheaper.

Well I would have come and got him if it had been me. I have never delivered a horse for loan, I always expect the person wanting the horse to collect and pay all charges.

I think that as she is willing to take him to reschool him and spend some time on him it means that it is up to me to pay to get him up there pay towards shoeing costs and keep paying his insurance. Isn't that normal?
She only wants a finders fee if she goes on to sell him for me, How much is that normally?

Really all this should have been discussed at the beginning of your communications with her to ensure both parties were happy with the agreement.

Finders fee? Is she going to sell him for you? Anything from 5% to 10% is the norm, but livery charges, etc all come into bearing. If she is taking the horse to SELL (i.e. from the outset this is a business transaction) then yes, you are probably morally obliged to pay the transport costs - but you said it was a loan. Be sure to ensure if it is a loan, or a sales livery - they are 2 very different things. She could (now I have no idea who this is, so apologies if this offends) sell your horse, say she got £6k, charge you 10%, actually have achieved £7k and pocketed the £1k and you would NEVER be the wiser - you really need to be careful and you need to get proper contracts written up.

I transported a horse down from just south of Glasgow to Warwickshire and that cost me £400 and that really was the cheapest I could find. Gillies quoted me £600 or so. When I had to take the horse back to the dealer I thought it would be cheaper to hire a horsebox so thats what we did but with diesel prices it cost in total about £390 anyway so not much in it.
