Opinions: Would a grey horse put you off?

I don't have a grey, just a skewbald and a piebald, I said to myself it can't be that bad.... nearly a year later I totally retract that statement! Although if it was the perfect horse then I would buy it and invest shares in Fairy Blue washing up liquid!

All my best horses have been greys and I still prefer them to any other colour. Especially when they are in the Dapple stage.
What would put me off is any melanomas already present especially if the horse is young - if in late teens and the lumps didn't interfere with saddle or bridle that would be fine

I am obsessed with coat shine spray and shiney-ness! which is why my chestnut is great for me, greys just don't seem to show that lovely sun reflection in their coat. Same with hoof oil, I love the look of oiled black feet.
I did have a grey pony as a child and I didn't have to much trouble with stable stains.. but that yellow bit at the end of the tail...eugh! Would not willing put myself through that endless job again lol

We've had two grey ponies and they both had melanomas and they were also a nightmare to keep clean, especially in winter, although that wasn't too much of a problem at the time as daughter was young and wasn't competing much. However, when we looked for her last horse we specifically ruled out greys just because they are so high maintenance in the grooming department and they just wouldn't fit in with our horsey lifestyle. Daughter hunts and competes throughout the winter and our horses get plenty of time out in the field, so we just didn't want all the extra work demanded by a grey horse! I do admire them when ridden by others though!

My impression from the oodles of research I've done on sarcoids is that there's no evidence that greys are more susceptible.

After two very dirty ponies years ago - one grey and one skewbald, I said n more greys or coloureds. Still have the coloured, plus another one, a very light palomino, and four greys. The two bays and one black are much easier to keep clean, but there's something about a grey...
