my old pony used to be shod by a very good farrier before i got him but he's VERY expensive. i used the farrier that comes on the yard once a week for a while but his shoes kept falling off so changed to the other farrier and he never lost a shoe again in nearly 2 years and his feet where always immaculat. when i got kiwi i started using the other farrier again i don't really know why and low and behold she is constantly loosing shoes her feet are good though, anyway dad said if she looses another shoe or her feet are looking long quickly which they normally do then we will change. she has now lost a show within 3 weeks of last being shod is it worth changing farriers do you think?

just needed some opinions on what you lot would do as there is about £30 difference between the prices but a significant difference in shoeing?

sorry to be annoying and sorry for the essay just need some help to make my mind up!

thanks

I'd say change to the better farrier, your current one doesn't sound very good! If the 'good' one is too expensive then I'm sure there'd be other cheaper farriers around who would do a good job, but don't skimp on price regarding a horses feet, they are extremely important so should be looked after as well as possible.

the farrier i have at the moment isn't bad perticulay but shoes never seem to stay on if that makes sense! i would have changed straight away if i though her feet wern't in good condition! thanks for your help i think my mind is nearly made up just wanted to here some thoughts on what other people might do!!

thanks!

Yep kayleigh is right - think of the time and effort you have to put in to wait for the farrier to come back out and put the show back on...also does it cost you money to have the shoe put back on...?
I have just changed farriers and my last farrier was a bit cheaper and have to say that is why I went with him. I only changed recently due to him not turning up and I noticed my horses were standing badly at the back. The recent farrier confirmed that they were in fact twisting their back legs which was bad on the joints and their feet were extremely flat...I know farriers sometimes like to slag each other off but I generally could tell he was telling me the truth. Since then I have had to have recent visit to improve my horses feet due to the slightly cheaper one causing me problems.
Def go with the better one if you can - I know it will cost more, but believe me I wish I had spent some more money and it would of saved me all this time and effort now.
