hey guys
im looking to do some ''serious'' showing with my welsh section D mowcastle math
but iv been spending countless hours looking on google and math doesnt look anything like them.
so im asking your opinions on him im looking to do M&M working hunter and some inhand
possibly ridden D's but i dont think he would do very in that.but yeah county shows ect
Hes 15.1hh and alot fatter now than in the pictures.
Anyway opinions on him

yeah hahaa hes got a hell of alot of weight at the min just needs to get some muscle on him and yup we have changed his bit from the gag to a hanging cheek and hes slowly being to work more correct but just needs his rider on top to start riding him not just sitting on him haha thanks you x

Well he certainly is the most gorgeous lad! We go hacking in Delamere too - it's fab isn't it. I think you have the right raw ingredients but in order to do 'serious' showing (and by that, I take it you mean County level), I'd say you need to put in a fair amount of time and effort to your schooling and turnout. The Horsegossip forum is showing-orientated and you'd get some great advice on there.

I think he looks the part for M&M working hunter classes with a few little adjustments.
he isn't as chunky as some welshes and could do with more top line although he looks to have lovely, typical paces.

it is 'correct' to show in a double bridle or a pelham with two reins, or a plain snaffle. Also, a really small thing but the numnah, although it is saddle shaped, is rather prominent. I think he would look smarter without one or one less obvious.

Also, a small plait behind the ears.

yeah i love hacking there math used to live at one of the stables round there so was his everyday hack so he got so excited when we took him =D
Im really hoping we can go out and do some county classes ridden will be next year but thinking of taking him to do some inhand gelding classes this season if we can sort his travling out yeah the showing pics are hurrendos iv never shown until that day haha im going to get the bit lady out to see about a showing bit as hes tipical welsh big fleshy mouth ectt and i never knew about the plait behind the ears thank you
i know im never going to HOYS on him ... unless the judge likes welsh's that dont looks like welsh's hahaaa but i would like to see how far we could go and i love cheshire show the rings are so nice and its somthing i would love to aim for

He is gorgeous! More muscle would be good. Might also be worth taking him to a show for fun and asking the judges for comments?

Obviously its hard to tell from photos but I would say (if you can) avoid male judges. My D is a modern sportier type much like yours, and often male judges don't like this...female judges on the other hand tend to like a more modern D if they come with good manners and a good flat show. Now this isn't law, there will always be some female judges that go more traditional etc. but this is simply something I've picked up on when showing mine

Also try going to some breed shows before you hit the county circuit...you will have the chance to compete against quality animals with judges that know the breeds, it will give you a very good indication of how he may fair at a county level.

Just remember, showing is very subjective and just try to enjoy the experience

Nice boy to be honest its all down to whose judging on the day, some like one type & others another! Only one i really wouldnt bother with is the inhand D's....but then i do live in West Wales & id be up against all the big studs lol! Give it a bash, you wont know till youve tried!

o will bare that in mind my friends got a arab and she has to travel round following certain judges and gonna try the inhand gelding classes i doubt we will even place but hes a bit wary at the bigger shows xxx

I would also say to avoid the in-hand classes, as you get some absolutely FABULOUS examples of the breed in those classes that are very flashy to watch and catch the judges eye and from your photos I suspect that at county he'd get a bit lost.

My personal suggestion would be to get out locally this coming season, see how he does in ridden M&M classes and working M&M, and then go from there. Also see when your local WPCS is holding their breed show and enter him in that.

Turnout wise - in workers you can have the different bit, martingale and boots etc but I would suggest losing the numnah or getting one that is much closer in size to the saddle. In a ridden class you will want a pelham or double bridle unless it's a novice class when a snaffle is required. One small plait behind the ear, not rolled up.

Not the best photo but it gives you an idea of the turnout. Make sure you wear a tweed (which you are in the last photo) with shirt and tie, beige or cream jodhs, not white. The brown gloves are good. Spurs are a no-no. Locally it's not so essential but county you will want a navy hat with flesh coloured harness. Hair up in a bun or at least contained in a hairnet. He will need his tail feathered, not 'banged' straight at the bottom. Hoof oil on hooves.

The schooling photo definitely shows his welshness!

I'd personally take about 3" off of his tail (from the schooling photo) as a long tail can make a back-end look more angular, and get some more muscle on him. You don't need the extra weight but more muscle will help him appear rounder

No no i invite nit picking haha iv showjumped for the past 12years so showing is so new to me hahaa
took him out locally judges in the workers love him hes yet to be beaten

but yeah hat is being changed will look at the the welsh shows im planning taking him to a welsh medal show as they do showjumping and its just welshes and well where we lack in showing this horse is a showjumper through and thorough as am i haha sadly we just cannot beat the tb's speed and corners hahaa
