Opions please, strange gait!

My 4yo mare has had a rather non existant summer due to one thing and another, but recently about 5 weeks ago she cut her hind leg quite badly, there was a hole down to the bone, it got stitched up and she was on BR for 2 weeks, she has since been turned out and i started hacking & walking in the school 2 weeks ago. subsequently she also lost the shoe on the cut leg. The cut is healing nicely but i feel she is turning the leg out and the other hind looks like its bowed in when she walks? Is she compensating for the cut leg & that she has a shoe or should i be looking more into to this? She doesnt look or feel lame. I am not sure whether i should be having my vet or physio look at this? Any help be grateful!!
 
Would be worth giving the vet a call, he may be able to resolve over the phone.

I have a pony who cut himself quite badly in his groin. Even once it was nearly healed he started doing a funny short stride on the opposite hind in walk. The vet advised me to keep him in until he was 100% healed in case the unusual gait became a habit, apparently it can. bit of a pain to have more br but it did work.

I do know that when my horse sprained his stifle joint he was swinging his leg out to the side as the vet noticed it straight away and was therefore able to deduce quite quickly what he'd done. If your horse has got her leg stuck stuck in the accident that gave her the cut leg then it might be that she has sprained this stifle joint, otherwise, like you say it may be for the same reason I walk strangely when my disc is playing up in my back, to try to ease the pain somewhat. I would say initially this is a physio matter as I feel she may be overcompesating for her injury. Its a good job she has such a knoweldgable owner, well done in spotting that she has a problem and trying to rectify it. x
 
Thank you. i have spoken to my vet who thinks she is compenating and should hopefully be better when she get the injured leg shod. I will keep a good eye on it! Thank You
